A six-year investigation by the United States into antiquities smuggling has resulted in the recovery of a cache of stolen Egyptian artifacts. The recovered objects include a 2,600-year-old sarcophagus and a series of finely carved limestone reliefs that had been ripped from an Egyptian temple. Officials from Homeland Security Investigations/U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (HSI/ICE) returned the artifacts to the Egyptian government in a formal repatriation ceremony held at National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C.

80 years ago in the American Southwest, a museum paid native Americans for ancient pottery they could find. They got them by digging up grave sites. When the museum got all the monochrome pottery they wanted, they then paid only for polychrome. Native Americans who were digging for pots would smash the monochromes they found.

Egypt has too much unrest I don't think the artifacts will be safe there either.

not supporting looting and smuggling artifacts... but those will be safer if they are officially displayed in here (like the metropolitan museum in ny) than in egypt
