As of the start of their mission in Saqqara, Zahi Hawass and his team of Egyptian scientists get the impression that their excavation zone will be extremely rich. After digging over forty shafts, they finally unearth the Grail: dozens of sarcophagi dating from the New Kingdom and the Late Period of Ancient Egypt that will need to be scanned and maybe even opened.

But there are more surprises in store. Inside, the people have been buried with sometimes unexpected secrets. Thanks to forensic science techniques, the team travels back in time and brings to life the people who lived here, in Ancient Egypt, over three thousand years ago.

I think it’s amazing that we have this treasure trove of historical artifacts & incredibly preserved remains to discover & learn about the past from! Anyone who says to leave them be does not appreciate the extraordinary gift the ancient Egyptians unknowingly left for us! We can learn so much about history that we never would have known otherwise. And those who were forgotten millennia ago are now being rediscovered & remembered! I used to want to be cremated when I die, but now I want to be buried in the hopes that someday far into the future, my remains will be found & possibly provide knowledge & insight into this time.

Precision is not the word I would describe the process of them removing those coffins 🫤

Ancient Egyptians were really concerned about their afterlife that they just dedicated their whole life for it.

I wonder just how many bodoes are buried out there that are left from the ravages of time? They have been burying there at Saqqara since the Pyramids were being built up to the Ptolemaic dynasty, thats thousands of years of time!
This documentary was very informative and showed great access to the opening of these coffins and in depth look. Very impressive

Did anyone else notice they work in sand dust with no masks? That sand dust is very fine and they are in the bottom of a pit.

Is it archeology that has destroyed three thousand years of peace and quiet?
The people of that time buried them in the depths of the earth so that the later man could not destroy their peace.
