A former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; his wife Beatrice and their doctor have been convicted of organ trafficking, in the first verdict of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act.

Ekweremadu, 60; his wife, Beatrice, 56; and Dr Obinna Obeta, 51, were found guilty of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain with a view to his exploitation after a six-week trial at the Old Bailey.

However, the lawmaker’s daughter, Sonia, was cleared by the court.

The jury said Ekweremadu, his wife and their doctor criminally conspired to bring the 21-year-old Lagos street trader to London to exploit him for his kidney.

The funniest part of this story is that once he's done with his jail time, he community will give him a royal welcome home and then he will run for the office of the presidency of Nigeria. Nigeria is a crime scene!

The victim (street boy) should be giving an award by Nigerian youth for successfully sending one of the top politicians to prison for failure to build a standard hospital in Nigeria 😅😅😅

How can anyone feel sorry for Ekweremadu? He cornered everything that came to his Constituency into his private bank account for 20 years owning more than 40 houses all over the world yet could not build even a small clinic for his community. God works in a mysterious way. Let him go and enjoy his money in UK prison.

I hope they get the maximum penalty! There were so many other cases in the past
where children and youth from Black African countries were brought into the UK for the same
purpose. God knows how many of them died?!

This is exactly the justice we lack in Nigeria, this politician would have escaped this expressly in Nigeria but thank God it happened in the Country where true just abide. This should serve as example to all the wicked politicians in Africa.

This is what you call justice😂! I hope this will teach the Nigeria Politicians a strong lesson! Justice, is blind! Only in Nigeria that justice is unblind. 👍👍

There is still more to this story. That doctor will be forced to mention names of people he has facilitated same for. He is a organ trafficker with intercontinental cartels. The UK court is yet to come to that.

Everyday is for a thief but one day is for the owner. Since 1999, he had been jumping up and down as a senator or what! He did not make a mistake to build one hospital 🏥 in Enugu state, simply because he Ekweremadu has access to board flight ✈️✈️ with his family to England.

A day of reckoning, when you are in a position to serve your people and you fail to put basic necessities in place to serve your people, one day you will fall into trap of what you denied your people. EKWEREMADU has spent 20years as Nigerian law maker, collected security vote funds as a senator which if he was a good senator he would use that security fund and build a hospital that could have taken care of his daughter.

Nigerian judiciary won’t have found him guilty or would have give him sentence of two days and to pay a fine of 200, 000 naira

Great news. Great outcome. Serves the Ekweremadus' right. They have been larger than life in Enugu politics since 1999. Has stolen enof money to built a hospital in Enugu but never did.

Importantly also, this judgement is going to help Obi's case against Tinubu.
The Nigeria law is deliberately not very clear on whether a Nigerian with prior criminal conviction outside Nigeria is eligible to contest political offices in Nigeria.

Now that Obi threw in Tinubu's drug case in the US into his petition, this Ekweremadu's case makes the matter very real for the Election tribunal judges.
If they say crimes committed outside Nigeria cannot stop a Nigerian from contesting political offices in Nigeria, that means they are approving situations where someone like Ekweremadu will come back to Nigeria after serving his prison term to contest for any political office, including the presidency, and possibly win. I don't see the judges going with that line of reasoning.

This Ekweremadu's makes it clear that Tinubu is not qualified to contest for political offices in Nigeria and INEC shouldn't have allowed HIM to contest the presidency.
