If you have a cardiologist watching your videos and looking out for you like that, you have a very good doctor. And probably a good friend. They're really worth somethin'. Excellent video. Good refresher.

I'm that guy you mention at the end of this vid, the office worker that went out fishing... I was at this southern California reservoir, which was basically smack dab in the desert, no one there, and I was fishing from the rock shore with zero shade. I'd never had any kind of trouble with the heat. But on this day, I was totally exposed and if I recall, I didn't even bring water... by noon I had heat stroke, and it was frightening. My decision making was beyond impaired. It was somewhat like being extremely drunk on alcohol, but take all the fun out of it, and add on a whole heap of stupidity to it - literally, I became extremely stupid, nothing made sense to me, and I did not know how to help myself. Moral of the story - heat stroke is real, and it can be the first domino in a series of calamities that leads to serious injury or death. Listen to the advice in this vid!

Your blood travels all through your body, use Evaporative cooling on the places your blood comes to the surface of your body.  Inside your wrists, the back of your hands, your feet, your throat, inside your elbows, your crotch. Massive amounts of blood flow through your scalp,  etc, etc. Doing this will reduce your core temp faster than you would imagine, and if your in the shade- remove clothing.
Australians know about this stuff.

You should also wear clothing lighter in color. Black, any shade of green and dark blue clothes should be eschewed. Light tan or khaki or a color called yellow fan tan are preferred..Also if you're at a stream immerse your hands until the water is over your wrists. This will cool your blood.Breathe only through your nose, and talk very little. Lastly you want to be in the darkest shade you can find, If you can find anything but dappled or no shade make your own with a tarp or gathered brush.

Great new info for the younger folks & a reminder to old farts like me. I agree with some of the other comments about shorts, if your not going through thick brush. Also lighter colors. Rucker still doing night exercises, where they fire tracers? I use to find that great to watch. Been painting my house in recent days, here on the AL coast, so I know what hot is. Thanks

Blackie i know it has been hot where you live because we have the heatwave here also. Dont get out and over do it for sure.I went out and just set on my patio in the shade at prime heat of the day in a strong breeze and could not keep cool.So be safe out there by the way the weatherman is saying the heat will break some by Sunday i hope so.

I am a YouTube junkie. I love bushcraft and survival videos. But unfortunately most of the content on YouTube is gear reviews or weekend worrier types copying each others video ideas. How to make a fire, how to build a shelter etc. The more I watch you the more the more I appreciate your content. I grew up in the city and now live in the suburbs, so I know little about real wilderness survival. And from you I actually feel like I learn something useful. What I am trying to say is that I'm becoming a huge fan. Anyway keep up the good work and great videos.
