We sent Jayde Lovell from TYT out to the Venice Boardwalk to see how well Americans could understand some simple Aussie Slang. The results were pretty great!

That's a strange accent and I'm Australian

I’m Aussie. When I was in LA I pretended to be american to a bunch of Aussies and said I could do a perfect Aussie accent. They said no way, impossible. So I did a full on outback voice and blew them away. I never told them I was actually Aussie.

That's the worse Australian accent.

Ok this is funny! but also as an aussie, she sounds like an american tryna do an Australian accent. Not failing entirely, but not succeeding either…

Lived in Australia for many years and never heard anyone speak like that.

She's trying too hard. Australia is one place where there are distinctive male and female accents lol.

Is she kiwi or something? Doesn't sound aussie, that's for sure.

A thong is flipflops... Duh, who would think it was something else?

This is really exaggerated. I feel like whenever some Aussie goes over seas, they always exaggerate the accent. We do not sound like this lady here

Americans have no clue what we are saying yet we'd understand them perfectly

I'm Ausie and we don't speak like this in Melbourne unless we just smoked some weed. When Ausies say "me" instead of "my" it is cringe.

I've lost my thong? Well if that doesn't get an American mans attention, nothing will.

That’s some VERY strong aussie accents that we don’t even speak here in sydney

Well she does put on the Australian accent pretty thick but some parts of Australia they do sound like that, mainly deep country areas. The Aussie accent is stronger there. City people are mixed due to the many cultures and accents we deal with in our daily lives. Every regional areas and state differs.

The 1st time I was in the US of A, I had the same problem. They just don’t understand Australian English.
The 2nd time, I chose my words carefully & I had no problem.

As an American I'm sad to say I couldn't understand anyone in the UK when I was there, it wasn't until I visited Germany that I understood their English, it helped that I could speak a little German too.

Sometimes accents from the same language are like another language.
