Episode 88:Chapters 11-12 • Norse Myths, Legends, and Folktales • Viking's Son

Welcome to Norse Myths, Legends, and Folktales, where MyLinda Butterworth of Totally Stories interprets the written word for your listening pleasure. Today we continue the Saga of Thorstein' and learn the brothers' fate after Olaf is slain in chapters 11 through 12 of “Viking’s Son."

Now Jokul told his father, Njorfe, of Olaf's death and how it was his intention to take an army and go against Viking and slay them all. Njorfe forbade him to do that because he had an oath with Viking, and he had always been true to that oath and reminded his son that they should do honor to Olaf and bury him properly. One day two men named Gautan and Ogautan came to the king and asked if he would put them up for the winter, but the king refused, only for Jokul to agree to house them, looking for favors from them at a later date. Jokul never believed that Jarl Viking banished his sons, and with the help of Gautan and Ogautan, they discovered the brother's whereabouts. Ogautan used magic and created a terrible blizzard that lasted for 3 days that even froze the rivers and lakes, then it was time for Jokul to gather a group of 30 men to cross the frozen waters and eliminate the brothers. Will anyone survive this attack? Listen in to hear the whole story.
