Hey, you might think that this info makes me your lawyer, but it doesn’t and I’m not. Sorry, but I AM NOT YOUR LAWYER unless we have an engagement agreement. I am just providing public information here, like a library does, and am not providing you with legal advice about your situation. As a child of divorce, and some other subsequent parentally let legal bullshit, my guardian ad litem saved my life. I love her so much. I’m 36 now and I’ve never ever forgotten her. I’ve never felt more heard or respected, especially as a child. She made me feel important and valid when I had been pulled different ways for years and never ever asked what I wanted and I’ll never ever ever forget her. She genuinely fought for me, took not crap from anyone or either side, and she had my best interests at heart when I was in a horrific situation as a child. I could tell she did what she did because she wanted to and it was her passion and calling to protect kids. It was more than a job for her.

It’s really interesting to find out that statue of limitations doesn’t start until you’re 18

In my country it’s even 7 years for crimes against children so you can go first to get therapy to get yourself stable enough to fight such cases

I didnt sue anybody, but I was given an ad litem during my emancipation process. Honestly he didnt do much, the judge asked me questions to which i had all the statistics and proof that i was handling my own finances well enough.

Being able to have a guardian ad litem is very useful in circumstances like abusive parents

I was groomed online by a guy 7 years older than me when I was 13 and the "relationship" and grooming lasted til I was 19. In Texas it is a felony to send a sexual text to a minor but the Statute of limitations says he would've gotten in trouble only up to 3 years once the incident started...that means the oldest I could've been to report it was 16... I'm 21 now and didn't leave him ore realize the horrible things he said and did to me until I left him at 19... It feels like there's nothing I can do and I'm so powerless and a criminal got away with everything.

Speaking of Statue of Limitations, @LawbyMike, my family’s friend Dean was wronged by an Ex wife who said that this kid was his baby and he had to pay child support or she would take to court. He paid the child support, but it turns out that she is cheating on him and it was not his child, and she got married right after the divorce to the father of the child. This happened a while ago in the kid eventually found out. The child put conditions on the ex-wife that if she didn’t pay his alleged father back that he would not talk to her again. She mailed in around 20, 000 dollars that she got from an inheritance, she could afford it otherwise she just chose to use the inheritance, and that wasn’t even close to what he had paid in child support. That doesn’t even begin to cover the cash depreciation. Dean can’t do anything about it because even though he was promised money eventually it only now showed up, close to 20 years later, and it wasn’t close to the amount she owed. This has to be some sort of fraud right? Is there anything that Dean can do to get his money back and at least a little compensation for all the emotional damage and court fees?
