What I like the most about Jaime was his growth as a character. Coming to terms with his growth was hard as a viewer because morally I kept reminding myself that I couldn't like this character whom had pushed a 12 year old boy out of a window.

Jaime was a super shitty person and in a certain way, being taking captive and loosing his hand - as far as moral goodness goes (not the place or time to say if its a good or bad thing) - was the best thing to happen to him.

I'm pretty sure the change would and could have occurred in a less permanent manner but that's how the show goes. And if we want to consider Jamie loosing a hand as a punishment, given all the crimes he has himself committed and he had ordered or supervised to be committed, its a fucking slap on the wrist to loose his sword hand.
