Bingo. Been through exactly this. I knew nothing about this type of behavior at the time. I eventually did start to think THE PROBLEM WAS WITH ME. After a decade fighting to save this corrupted marriage, my health was suffering. It's been 5 years out now and I'm returning to normal. It was miserable.

Yeah, said so succInctly and perfectly. My father, a textbook example. Confronted after months of silence. Excuses, blaming circumstances, denial of previous exchanges and so on. I mostly cut communication, but with parents and close family there is a web of connections you can not undo as you can with a romantic partner or a friend

When my ex caused me serious injury and acted like no big deal, and I mentioned it to her she said “you don’t think I feel so bad about it”, again it’s like forget my behavior just listen to what I say and be grateful for that . Her behavior could not have been more callous and facial expression, instead of compassion, had more disgust, like what a nuisance I was to her to have ruined her plans by getting injured, even though she was responsible for that “accident”

They don't just avoid taking responsibility, they won't even ACKNOWLEDGE when they do something evil. Mine cheated on me, was caught, and when confronted completely avoided the topic and started calling me a bad person.
