A warning before you go on that camping trip and nice long hike.

May is “Tick Awareness Month” and if you plan to be in the woods, you should know the signs and symptoms of Lyme disease, which is caused by ticks.

The diagnosis process can be expensive and leave you asking Where’s the Money?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 30,000 people get Lyme disease every year, but they are quick to point out that the number might be 10 times higher because it’s often misdiagnosed and underreported.

This is Elyse’s story.

Outside is what Elyse Mickalonis is all about. Her love of long walks, vigorous hikes and anything outdoors including paddleboard yoga put her in the tick’s environment, and that eventually led to Lyme disease from a tick bite.

Lyme disease is misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia so often. Finally I have answers for the decades of chronic pain. Awareness is so important. I know many fibro warriors that actually have Lyme and in my case both.

My daughter was diagnosed 5 years ago. She's 10 now. We got her diagnosed extremely quickly but got absolutely no help from her doctor on what we can do. It has affected her not just physically but mentally as well. She became extremely depressed and suicidal bc she was just so overwhelmed with the body aches and swollen limbs. She is also autistic so the whole experience has been hell for her. Thankfully she's learned to handle it better mentally over the years but is still struggling with the physical effects ofen.

I’ve been sick for 12m, I’m active duty and have spent 9, 000 to treat. The CDC needs to recognize the threat Lyme and other tick bourn diseases is to public health.

I've had Lyme disease for 38 years. It took 27 years to get diagnosed. I still suffer from the symptoms.

Infectious disease specialist told me it can't be lyme since my bladder was affected. Said "where did you hear lyme can affect your bladder? The internet don't believe the internet, I'm a doctor." I was like literally it's a per reviewed journal article written by doctor's which had data that was statistically significant. Which can be found on the internet. Mind you this was just one of many of my symptoms. Its very annoying when you know more than the doctor does about a disease that they're supposed to be an expert on. 🙄

I’ve been having bad chest pains and I’m always exhausted. I’ve been to the doctors numerous times and they told me it’s my stomach but I feel like something else is wrong with me. I do work in a heavy wooden area I’m definitely asking my PCP to test me for lime disease. I love this video !!

I think it's important for people to know the current blood test for lyme are NOT a 100 percent accurate. Just because you test negative does not mean you don't have lyme disease.

the cost and expense in it's self is highway robbery we need better health care!!! But they know people with chronic illness will pay anything to try to feel better.

I think I got Lyme disease. I was bit by a smallest tick you can find and it took 5 days to show symptoms like fever, headache, confusion, dizziness. Yesterday My brain started to pain like it is moving inside my scull and in the even I cried a lot and I was suicidal. I am worried now😢
Edit: I'm feeling better now after seeking treatment from the doctor 🙂

Some doctors act like they don't even believe in the disease... Too many suffering because of it. 🥺

Drs often work the system, so if you sense a need for a specific test, INSIST on it before they send you through the money-generating battery of tests they want.

What is the most accurate way to test for it? And how much does that usually cost?

I think I have it. I've gotten bit by so many ticks throughout my life, and my joints have always hurt/clicked and popped. I'm only 25, but I've hurt so ce I was 12

Lyme disease can also be picked up in small streams of water which kids like to paddle in. Its vectored by the common rats which continually pee as they go about their business.

Ticks are socommon that I don't know why testing isn't included as a standard in yearly blood tests.
