Nice theory, but I've had essential tremor since I was a kid. I remember having it at least since first grade. I'm now 42 and have been vegetarian since I was a teenager. I don't smoke. Also, essential tremor runs in my family. So, there may be other contributing factors to ET as well.

At age 14 I had to wear a hand brace so I could eat and write properly at school. Now at 17 I never wear it thanks to a HCLF whole foods vegan diet! Thank you Dr. Greger :)

I have essential tremors since i was a kid. And i started eating some meat once a week when i was 18. There is no relation for me between diet and tremors. I have been lactovegetarian most of my life just like my family. We do consume some processed food. We use oil to cook vegetable.

What about fat to the brain I don’t think you’re addressing that. I was on a vegan diet for 2 1/2 years and was weak and sick. It wasn’t until I ditched all the high carbohydrates.
I got much healthier eliminating carbohydrates out of my diet . Increase my fat and protein and I have seen noticeable improvements in my health. I’m 67 years old and lived on a high carbohydrate standard American diet most of my life. It left me on the verge of diabetes and nerve damage. Protein and fats saved my life.

Another strike for meat!  Veganisim saved my life and reversed a painfully crippling neurological disease that had me wheelchair bound and bed ridden for years.  Now I'm planning my first marathon and only after seven months of being on a strict high carb/ low fat, plant based diet.

I'm almost totally vegan and my tremors have been getting worse. I occasionally eat eggs and salmon. I seldom eat chicken, I have hardly eaten any beef for years and I have only eaten pork a couple of times in my life. I am 66 y.o.

Don't listen to this quack. There is no connection between dietary β-Carboline alkaloids and essential tremors. β-Carboline alkaloids are widespread in plants as well as animals. The article he used clearly states "dietary sources of harmane probably play only a minor role and that endogenous production is the major contributor to blood harmane own recent dietary data also suggest that genetic-metabolic factors may be more important than dietary intake....In a study of the blood harmane and diet, while blood harmane concentration was elevated in ET cases, we did not find any differences in dietary protein consumption between patients with ET and controls." The study is also very flawed in that no controls were used and only 12 patients. This is nothing but an anti-meat scare ad.

Stunning. One of the first symptoms I noticed with my Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis was a combination of Peripheral Neuropathy and tremors at my extremities.

I've been shaking since i was in 3rd grade. I'm 53 now. Can barely get a fork to my mouth. Drinking out of a stemmed glass is a disaster. Can hardly put on makeup etc. Just discouraged.

This harmane associated with essential tremors is me! My doctor has not been able to figure it out. Any time I now eat pork/beef/chicken (haven’t tried other meats) I get temporary essential tremors. I feel tingling started in my neck and shoulders and then my arms go numb and my hands will shake for about 30 seconds and then BAM! It’s gone. It could take anywhere from 5mins to a day for this to happen. I stopped eating meat 2 years ago and I haven’t had a tremor since. I miss meat though, has anyone found a way for them to be able to eat meat and not have this happen to them? What is this condition called so I can do more research on it? I’ve literally been explaining this to my doctor and she had thought I was just losing it, but this is exactly what happens to me. I love lamb and beef. I just want to be able to eat those again.

also present in significant quantities in soysauce and molasses (an ingredient in many processed foods -like dark bread for example -read labels). learned that the hard way. so important to stick with a WFPB diet

I noticed that my hands were getting shaky as I was moving into my 50's.  It bothered me a bit and worried me that I knew it was probably going to get worse.   My hands are now rock solid still since going vegan. :)
