RPG Maker MV [PS4] Review

RPG maker mv is an RPG creation tool that's finally been ported to consoles.
I've been waiting on this one for a while.
But does it hold up to its PC counterpart?

Everyone seems confused so I'll leave this here: The free version you see on the store is MV Player. It allows you to download users games from their server and play them for yourself.

However, you aren't able to create your own game with this free software. That's what the full retail RPG Maker MV is for.

I’m just curious on if they’ll also make games that were previously extremely popular such as the witches house or corpse party, or whatever else popular rpgmaker games you can think of

There does happen to be people who don't have PC's that run games well, even a game such as this. It is, I think, perfectly acceptable that people get this game and it does actually have a lot of features. If you came here for a review of this product, not a comparison to its PC counterpart (not a fair comparison either, because this is true of almost ANY game that is on consoles verses games on PC), then the reviewer failed you. The game has loads of features, not sure why you couldn't make a narrative driven game on this product. It does have its issues, no mouse support makes managing menus a chore and there are LOTS of menus. To be efficient it will also require a keyboard for inputting text, though it can be done without such a device. The long term also doesn't have to be awful as DLC is an ever present possibility. It isn't as robust as the PC, but if its your only option it is a solid one.

Ive used this on pc its really good but it just seems the ps4 verson seems like its lacking stuff maybe they will add more as time goes on i dunno

Two question. How does Placement view work when setting up enemies in troops on consoles? If a enemy image/spirte is facing the other way from the player in a side view battle, how do you reverse the image. I want to get the game and use side battle view, but I don't want my characters overlapping the enemy in battles

How do I put one BGM for the normal battles and a different one for boss battles, anytime I use the events and set a certain BGM for a boss fight it only plays the normal battle music I set. Do I need a plug in or did they update it so you can just use the events to set a certain BGM during boss battles

Without custom graphics, and music assets, this software is D.O.A. Quite frankly a waste of resources that could have gone into making a more updated RPGM. Good video!

Making it like RPG Maker 2003 and also allowing asset sharing via SD Card would make a better experience. It seems like a port and nothing else. It's fine for what it is. Heck, it could even be like RPG Maker for Playstation, and offer anime makers and have more features on different memory cards, or finding ways to import assets.

HELP please...I started a game on a PS4...now I want to export the project file on PC and continue my game on PC...Is this possible? Sorry for my bad english

I might pick it up but with the lack of assets I think I will leave it for a while, just to see what happens and it the features improve.

What’s really funny, is that the Very First RPGM that came to console (I played it on PS2) was Super functional and, for the most part, completely customizable down to the code (mostly for event sequences, not the hard code like combat style and stuff). Sure you couldn’t import stuff or overhaul the game, but those features, except for the character customization (which is still more limited by comparison), haven’t even returned nearly ten years later.

I plain on getting this game on Switch, and it's on sale for $29.99. Should I wait around Black Friday sales to see if it goes lower or would it be better to get it now?

Due to licensing issues, home consoles will never have mod support like PC. With that being said there are plenty of games without mod support that are enjoyable and financially successful like Skyrim for example. My point being, PC will always be superior in that category. The PC version my be better, but not everyone owns a pc or maybe they dont want to own the PC version. The problem that I had with this "review" is that you spent the entire time talking about what this version of the game didn't have instead of what you can accomplish with the tools you are given. Sure this version is limited compared to its PC counterparts, but it doesn't mean its destined to fail, once again look at Skyrim. Despite its limitations I'm looking forward to this game. This video was just a bias rant and not a proper review to inform the viewers of what this game has to offer.

I bought it on PC and found out very quickly that even the base game on PC is quite limited. Using plug ins and making your own assets is really a game changer. Can’t imagine using it on Console must be a real faf just typing out your texts using a joypad for a start. I’ve put over a hundred hours in in the month I’ve had it and made 20 mins of actual game as most of the rest of the time was learning how it actually works by watching numerous YouTube videos and play testing play testing play testing. Trying different plug ins etc. It will eat your time away on PC, on console really can’t work.
