Should You Buy RPGMaker MZ? (Full Price, On Sale, Never?)

Based on my first 10+ hours playing around with RPGMaker MZ I discuss if this is a smash or a pas- I mean if you should buy it full price, wait for a sale, or just forget it ever existed. I don't know everything there is to know about this engine, this is simply how I feel after experimenting with almost every feature I would use on a normal basis.

Also, my little spiel about VX not being out for 4 years before its successor like MV is with MZ is entirely wrong, I guess I just kinda forgot VX existed and when it was made XD. Can't believe how long its been...

I still can't believe they're sticking to chibi sprites only. They really should make the option that if you want taller characters from the generator you can create that. That's the biggest feature I'd like to see improved in RPG maker

Don’t worry Toast we both share the same opinion which makes your opinion right.

I have both the MV and the MZ. There is almost no difference between the two. But MV has a more extensive plugin library. And you can almost find creators that offer free full licenses. You can find two or three plugins for what you're looking for. (I'm talking for those who don't want to pay a lot of money) The most important thing I felt missing when working in MV is MZ's <<Plugin Commands>> interface.

My honest opinion: if you are a user of the RPG Maker software; yes you should buy it. The crisp organized clarity of MZ verses older versions is like a breath of fresh air. It doesn't come with as many doodads in the RTP, but as someone who always imported tile sets and other materials that doesn't bother me much. Well worth it to me.

I am new to rpg maker, and mz was on sale for $44 but mv was on sale for $16. I read the reviews and had to go with mv. One of my viewers was buying it for me, but i couldn't justify more than double the price for so much of the same content. Maybe if it goes on sale again for a better price i might get it, or i might wait till the new one comes out this year.

I remember seeing the announcement trailer of MZ and was thinking "This just looks like MV with a different art style for the characters and tile sets." I think for now I'll just stick with MV.

"even the rtp looks like some cheap mobile game art" on point. Check out the hydra and the horse battlers too they're hilarious.

Imagine if the next game had even just very simple 3d graphics, how much it would stand out from its predecessors, that's what I wanna see.

I'm of the same opinion, It seems underwhelming to me as well.
"Save your money" Sounds great advice. Thanks, I think I'm going to buy a pizza instead. : D

No.. it's honestly just not worth it.
It feels like a half step.. and they included as few changes as they could and only wanted to make money.
There's more that should have been there.. but the head of development in Japan supposedly is VERY against some features.. which to me is idiotic..
MAKE YOUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY!!!

After finally playing RPG Maker MZ for many hours, I'm finally taking a break from it why?
BECAUSE IT'S BORNING!
I know that I've said before I was going to stick with it because it was easier, but unless they make some plugins for it, and tweak some of the bugs again I'm going to take a break from it.

In my opinion, the plugin usage is the biggest, most important difference, and I think even SRD missed it. Lag reduction might be essential to some devs too.

That might make the engine a bit more worth it to devs, but overall I’m in agreement. It’s quite similar to MV, and does not feel particularly 2020.

I've been waiting to see what will come of this update before getting started on Eternal Twilight 2. This video definitely helps me solidify what I was already thinking: "Don't buy it... yet."

I'll give it another 4-5 months to see if there are any amazing changes or plugins that come out that will give me a reason to drop the money on the engine. Aaaaand...I'll also wait for the inevitable sale, because I'm not paying full-price for a side-grade to MV.

I really wanna get into to game development the only issue was that I can't make art very well and I have crap for coding skills so this review was very helpful

Also VX ace was a major improvement over VX, we don't talk about VX.
