The idea of Mario's favorite game being S3&K is both really funny and surprisingly adorable.

I love to think that both Mario and Sonic love each others games but can’t express it to the public because of the corporation rivalry. Behind the scenes they just geek out together- I love them!

This is in character for Mario, he's all about friendliness and fair sportsmanship. Plus Miyamoto personally liked the Sonic games which I'll take as Mario probably would too.

Also, him being a Sonic 3 fan is actually the most in-character I’ve ever seen for him. An almost literal interpretation of the phrase “game recognises game”.

I love the idea that Mario appreciates and respects having competition in the video game market, especially if its the same game genre. Honestly given how often he collabs with Sonic now compared to the 90s I'm convinced its "canon"

This feels surprisingly legit. Mario has kind of always had that universal nice guy vibe going, so it kinda tracks that he'd be super into other consoles and games.

Like "wow check out the fun stuff everyone is making", earnestly enjoying what even his rivals are making.

I honestly like the idea of Mario and Sonic playing each other’s games. Mario loves Sonic games because they’re speedy and exhilarating compared to his usual adventures, and Sonic loves Mario games because he likes a little good clean fun at a slower pace during downtime (although he would probably like speedrunning them because of course he would).
