Background separation and far-side key light are the two things every filmmaker should learn for filming interviews. They make a maaassive diference. Great tips and a great video as always!

Yo Alex! This was easily the MOST comprehensive breakdown and easy to follow guide to film a full interview from start to finish. The interview is the only thing I have left to film for a project. Thank you for sharing!

all of this for free though! I'm really loving these in depth videos Alex. Also quick question do you use manual focus only or a bit of both?

I'd love a video on what to do when we absolutely cannot control the lighting. I'm headed abroad, alone, to interview people at someone's wedding (as a gift to them- nothing professional). I've got ONE Sony fx3, pro audio gear with it (wireless lavs) but can't pack lighting nor have any crew with me. Will pick decent background, good, fast lens and separate subject from background, test eye contact like you said, etc. That's about all I can do I guess? No key light, etc.

Which light did you use for the keylight? The Aperture 120d or Feelworld 225b? Great video btw!

Good video, shooting into a corner also helps to create depth, and flat wall will mostly not be good for this, unless its a style you are going for, shot gun is best pointed towards the chest, not exactly at the mouth .

Alex, doing my first boxer interview and came across your video and boy did it help with my anxiety. Your setup in this video will be my go-to from now on. After testing it with myself at home, all I can say is WOW! I'm good to go. Thank You! Love your work. @laredosportspics and @laredoheadshots I'm a Sony user with the A7R5, A7R3 and a variety of lenses and lights.
