Did a 911 operator hang up on the assistant manager of Buffalo’s Tops Supermarket during last weekend’s deadly mass shooting? Latisha Rogers says she hid behind a customer service desk and called 911 as the gunman stalked the aisles. She says the operator told her not to whisper, before hanging up on her. Erie County Central Police Services confirmed that “the individual who took that call is now on administrative leave pending a disciplinary hearing.”

I’ve been a dispatcher for 15 years and this INFURIATES me. She should lose her job for sure…

I have used the “if you need to get off the phone just put it down so I can listen”. Your job is to calm the caller down

An example of someone that really doesn’t want to do their job and who needs to be fired immediately

I recently applied for a 911 dispatch position. The interviewer asked what characteristics did I believe a dispatcher would need: care/concern for others and attention to details were my top two answers. I didn’t get a call back and I’m so happy. It seems to be a pretty stressful job which probably is deficient in human relations.

I’m certain she’s been trained in how to deal with whispering calls!! She knows FULL DAMN WELL if someone is in trouble they will whisper!! Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE behavior she displayed!!

Wtf “you don’t have to whisper” WHAT? There’s a thousand scenarios someone could need to whisper on a 911 call! What if they were dying and could barely talk?! What if they were sick and lost their voice but still needed 911?? Or in this case, the obvious, someone is in danger and they need to stay quiet so they aren’t caught?? Absolutely insane.

Glad the community is coming together during a tragedy like this and these 911 operators really need to be held accountable for the way they talk to people. They could've gotten there a lot sooner had the 911 operator did her job and dispatched them right away. People hide in closets all the time when their house is being broken into. They would whisper so they won't be heard. If she don't know how to do her job then that's not the field she need to be in

Hilarious, how could 911 official didn't notice the voice of someone in danger, that's totally unprofessional, we must never take anything for granted

Congrats to the Buffalo Bills, and for the fine people who came out to help. Helping others is a much bigger gift than we realize.

This is not the first time this has happened with these emergency dispatchers, who remembers the woman who called 911 to ask them to find her when her car got trapped in water? She was crying saying she was scared to die and the dispatcher was yelling at her telling her to keep quiet….I have never been so furious! That woman ended up drowning her car and dying 💔….there is no excuse for such cruelty

Warms my heart to see a community come together to meet people's needs in a time of crisis.

Disciplinary action such as jail time needs to happen. Because them hanging up could and will cause lives to be lost.

It's about time the rudeness and arrogance of some (SOME) 911 operators is called out. It's happened far too often that they cop an attitude rather than being concerned for the victims calling them.

That 911 operator definitely needs to be held accountable. She could've been the savior for those who lost their lives

I find it interesting that his family didn’t know but knew to blame covid for his actions. Makes me wonder what else they “didn’t know”.

I’ve been a dispatcher for almost 5 years this is completely unacceptable! You stay on that phone until that caller feels safe enough to disconnect.. Smh

This is not the first time this has happened, it has happened COUNTLESS times. Operators can be the bravest or most cowardly people in existence

This is sickening nobody should ever have to be discomforted by their only pillar of hope in the moment
