I'm tearing down my Threadripper workstation and rebuilding it as a 32 core/32 terabyte Unraid Home Server with the goal of demonstrating how to turn whatever desktop PC you may have into a Homelab server, or how to develop an End-of-Life plan for your next home office or gaming PC build. #Unraid #Homelab #bequiet

This build is so clean and that 3D print job you did was perfect.

Excellent video. Pretty quickly I realized that this particular build wasn't going to be quite what I was trying to do, but the info provided really helped me focus on what I needed for the platform: hardware, total RAM, ECC vs. Non-ECC, # of cores, as well as the software for my needs. Bravo!

This is the 2nd video I've watched of yours and wow! This is so helpful, great layout of the content. One thing that would help me visualize more is if you could list the specs of the items you are going over with overlay text in the corner as you mention them. For example, in the Core System Build chapter, 4:00 to 6:00 time. it would be great to see all the specs. Otherwise, keep up the great work! I have definitely subscribed.

Jeeeez! This is a VERY high end and expensive NAS build! Way more than anybody normal will ever need lol. Very nice tho!

Nice server, for some heavy lifting I assume. I am building a much more modest Unraid server with an old Xeon e3-1245 v3 in an Asrock Rack motherboard with ECC memory. I plan on using the NAS feature as well as a couple of other functions, none of which will be super intensive on the hardware. I'm looking forward to watching your video on the software part.

Might consider Harvester when you want to use Kubernetes and VMs.

I saw what motherboard you were pulling out 2 minutes in and.... immediately dipped as I knew this would be way out of my price range. Haha.

I bought a Seasonic SnowSilent 1050W Platinum 80 PSU about ten years ago, I'm still using it today in my main gaming/work PC. And back then LTT was saying you only needed a 400W PSU, anything more was a waste of money. I wonder how many PSUs people have had to buy over the years as they upgraded their systems. That undoubtedly cost them more than my long serving 1050W.

Are you using the 2990wx in UMA or NUMA mode? I’d be very curious about whether leaving it in NUMA mode and excluding the last 16 cores for VMs would yield better performance than doing the same in UMA.

Love the B-Roll footage. Just wondering why the bottom feet of the case aren't attached. Is there an asthetic reason or something else?

I'm gonna tear down one of my gaming pc's and turn it into a nas server/plex. 3900x with Msi meg x570 ace motherboard. Got everything I need except 16 port sata card which I'm waiting for in the mail. Gonna do unraid which I just paid for the highest version they have. I don't have ecc memory though. Got 32gb of ddr4. After watching your video I might get some ecc ram now.

why do you need that high a spec for a server ?

You're telling me that this 64 core was in your workstation and you got to it's 'end life' for your work station? Or it was just a good time to create your server? Maybe this CPU wasn't being utilized to its fullest in your WS.
