It's great that Dogen is raising his daughters bilingual so they can one day get in heated arguments with their peers in English, thus completing the cycle and bringing balance to the universe.

I've found out that looking up the meaning of Japanese words in a Japanese language dictionary is a great way to learn new words, especially words about how to explain what something is. You may also learn definitions that aren't regularly used by translating apps.

Here's an example. In a song I was listening to, the singer said 外野 (gaiya), which a lot of websites simply translate as "outfield, " but that didn't seem to match the context. Low and behold, when I look it up in a Japanese language dictionary, the third definition is "a third wheel, " and I'm like, "oh, that makes _perfect_ sense in context.

I thoroughly enjoy how the humor in these skits is still accessible to those who don't know much. And then the more you do know the more nerdy the humor becomes.

I always love how increasingly off-the-rails their videos become over these topics 😂 it really highlights the way some people would actually treat it when learning about that

Loved that. And when Dogen said he couldn’t just use Japanese all the time since he’s trying to create a bilingual environment at home for his kid I was like, “dude, that’s the excuse I always use!” (Of course in my case, my Japanese is actually bad enough to warrant the excuse. At least according to my kids.😅)

This was an unexpected gift from both of you. I'm American, studying Japanese, and typically stay in Ōsaka when I travel to Japan, so this has raised many questions. Thanks for that and the laughs.

Did Matt ever publicly address the uproot scam? With all the controversy that he was the center of a year ago and the toxic comments he made on video, I have reservations about anyone giving him a platform. Did he show any accountability? From what I have seen, he scammed his followers, took their money, evaded the public uproar and tried to silence public dialogue about it.

“KI-nou” is a thing in 土佐弁 too. I was wondering why everyone was so obsessed with functionality at first…

>Americans localizing じゃん/やん as “bro” rather than as “innit”.
“innit” is the correct translation of “じゃん” in almost every context and you know it.

Dogen finally meeting his match. Now have Yabatan and Matt at the same time to finally tip him over the edge.

Dogen always pulls off the role of a nit-picking Japanese grammar nazi so well, that it usually takes me a bit of self-convincing to remember that he's not ACTUALLY that toxic and is just in character.
