Today my Japanese friend opened his backpack and I saw a pen with the words "This is a pen" printed on it. I laughed and asked what the deal was and he said that "This is a pen" is the first English phrase he ever learned and his friend jokingly made it for him! おもしろいね！

So "Kore ha pen desu" was relevant even back in the day, before it proved the Japanese language's superiority in deterring viruses.
