I work at a small food factory. When we get our yearly inspection the inspectors always comment on how unusually clean the factory is compared to others. The place I work isn't that clean, which is scary.

"Private equity" as mystery owners of every thing under the sun, including our housing and food, is incredibly problematic. There's no clarity into who is in the process of owning and controlling everything we need.

In Europe if your company is found liable for the deaths of its customers the corporate leaders go to jail. We need that in the United States! If all you get is a fine for killing people, people will die!

When profit is involved, greed beats safety every time. It becomes a game of “catch me if you can”.
Companies would rather pay the fines, which are shockingly low, and fight any lawsuits in the courts.
Then they apologize to the public and go right back to the way they were doing things anyway.

Corporations can't be tried as individuals. So why would put them in charge of regulating themselves and ensuring other people's safety. The American justice system claims that prison based punishments deter crime. Well a company doesn't go to jail, and it only has to pay paltry fines when caught (if they are even caught at all), then there really isn't much deterrence at all, is there?

I work in the food production plant. One big issue is the private equity firms wants high profits and demand more production in less time my company recently went from producing and processing food 24/7, to now only 5 days a week. We're expected to produce the same amount of food in the five days as we were in seven days.
This includes the breaking down and cleaning the equipment and rooms, the turn around expectations are not food and employee safety.
Oh yeah and the company I work for recently was bought by an equity firm.
