Did you do a control with the wet drip dried?

Welding shop trick to keep welding rods dry that should work for plastic filament: Make a hot box out of an old refrigerator. Just disconnect the compressor and motor, and bypass the switch for the light. The small incandescent bulb keeps the interior hot enough by running all the time, to keep moisture at bay. Lots of old fridges available for super cheap or free, you want one that doesn't run anymore, so folks are happy for you to haul it off for them.

The question is how moist is the air that enters the filament dryer and what is the drying procedure.
I don't think the dryer will help if the ambient humidity is high. And if the ambient humidity is low, the filament will dry without a dryer.
The best solution in my opinion is silica gel.
NOTE: You can dry silica gel in a microwave.

Hmmmm, I live in the very humid south next to a large lake in a slight valley, so 1000% humidity. I'll have to pick one up, mainly to dry filament after it arrives

Bought one for work, revives PVA like nothing. Absolutely worth the money

Tap water contains minerals. I would never try this.

what is the purpose of wetting it and then drying it?

I wonder how bad that would print after an hour in the dryer to just remove surface water but I don't want to destroy your printer.

You could put the spool outside in the wind and it will dry off in a couple days

Try it with petg not pla cuz pla doesn’t absorb much water unlike petg
