Once in a while, there’s a paradigm shift in science: a groundbreaking thinker appears whose ideas take accepted theory in unprecedented directions. In the 20th century, physicist David Bohm was such a thinker. The new documentary Infinite Potential: The Life and Ideas of David Bohm tells the story of this relatively unknown yet remarkable scientist. Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity described the fundamental relationship between matter and energy. Niels Bohr then described the behavior of tiny particles with quantum theory. The two groundbreaking theories appear to be contradictory. Yet they each explain observable phenomena––relativity on the macro level and quantum theory on the micro level. Bohm, called by Einstein his “spiritual son,” proposed the idea of an “implicate order” underlying observable phenomena, connecting all.

Here scientists Basil Hiley and Chris Dewdney describe how applying Bohmian theory to the classic two-slit experiment helps explain what's observed.
