A Geometry of Consciousness -- The Pribram Bohm Hypothesis

preview_player
Показать описание
The holoflux theory of consciousness as modulated energy is hypothesized and shown to support both local and non-local properties. This thesis emerges from an integral evaluation of evidence drawn from: (1) the holonomic mind/brain theories of Karl Pribram, (2) the ontological interpretation of quantum theory by David Bohm.

Hope people watching know that most neuroscientists and consciousness scholars would consider this pseudoscience. Form your own opinions (and it's well explained and interesting) but it's just good to know where the field stands.

This video seems to essentially be the quantum equivalent of "Here be dragons." Just because we dont know what, if anything, exists below the planck length, doesn't mean you can just invent anything you want down there. nothing he said really seemed, at least to me, to support the idea of an "implicate domain" below the planck length, other than an argument from authority that bohm used the term in his work, despite not even showing enough context for us to know if bohm was even using the term in the same way that the video is.

This may just be beyond me, but im usually pretty good at keeping up with physics, and this video just seems to be filled with disjointed ideas and non sequiturs, which is often a hall mark of pseudoscience theories. One example is the idea about coverting things from timespace perspective to frequency perspective. I dont see how this can make any sense at all, because frequency is itself a property that can only exist within a timespace context. A frequency is the distance between a peak and a trough, but How can you differentiate two points on a wave, let alone the distance between them, without some form of coordinate system, e.i, space? How could you measure an oscillation, a or a change in state, without refferencing time?

The idea that the universe is pervaded by some kind of fractally conscious force is definitely cool though, and it certainly appeals to my own spiritual and supernatural inclinations, but this just isn't how science works, something isn't scientific just because it is cool. Before people decry me as dogmatic or close minded in my scepticism, i would point out that the whole reason science is so intense and rigid in its need for evidence and falsifiability is to prevent dogma, to prevent people from becoming too attached to their own pet theories and pushing them even when our understanding moves beyond their scope. It occurs to me science is kind of Buddhist in a way, in that it tries to remove our understanding from our personal attachments.

I like to hold out hope that there might one day be a solid bridge between the spiritual, the supernatural and science, but this doesn't seem like it to me.

an interesting hypothesis that unfortunately has no basis in reality, yet. the proponents of this theory should provide a possible experiment to investigate this

This seems like a lot of non sequiters. Like if I used elephants as a unit of measure for Jumbo Jets so I could justify my assumption that airplanes are pachyderm in nature. It seems more like we're making the evidence conform to the conclusion rather than following the evidence to a conclusion. I'm sure it's very convincing to anyone who already believes or lacks familiarity with epistemology and fallacy.

"The Planck length can't be the smallest length. It's improbable."

"Why?"

"Well see the universe is a snake..."

This reminds me of when I was an Evangelical Born Again Christian watching actual PhD scientists try to convince me that the earth is only 6000 years old and was spoken into existence by God the Father, through His Word (Jesus, the Logos) by the power of the Holy Spirit. All very exciting stuff, but then you start to see the holes and at that point you either persist with childlike faith or you doubt it. And I doubt this. It seems like more of the same; Science being used to justify inconsistent human stories and ideas that put us somewhere at the centre. At some place of great importance.

And that's the crux it seems to me. People are terrified of the idea that they have as much significance as a rock or a battery chicken destined for the dinner plate. But as Laozi says "the universe treats the ten thousand things as straw dogs." For all this scientific talk that goes above my own head I still know that no one knows whether consciousness is the primary stuff of the universe or whether it is an accident of this local spot of the universe where action and reaction has given rise to what we call life, but which may very well be nothing more than action/reaction evolved over billions of years.

Consciousness and life itself may not be anything remarkable at all, but a mere consequent of particular energies at a given time and place in the universe.

Mind blowing fact: if you add one photon to a black hole, with a wavelength less than the radius of the black hole (Compton) the surface of the black hole will increase by exactly one Planck area (1.616x10^-3m5)^2. When I solved the equations for this, according to Susskind's direction, I realized there must be many deep connections in the cosmos we are only beginning to understand. Thanks for the video!

Love this sort of nonsense but seriously, you got a PhD for this? Really?

If this was true, it would follow that we can't make concious machines based on software alone. We would need to create the artificial brain with a certain 3-dimentional shape. That would mean that we could create intelligent machines that have no conciousness indistinguishable from those that are concious.
