Our teeth should not be so expensive to take care of when they affect our overall health. It’s disgusting how I see so many people not able to pay for dental care these days.

my dentist accidentally ripped a bracket off, which caused a half crack in my tooth, they couldn’t see it and i got a cavity in it, they said there was no cavity. we pay for an x ray, there was a crack and a cavity and they said it was my fault. we sued and got 30k and my tooth fixed along with a new dentist and orthodontist

I have bulimia and I don't brush my teeth that often thanks to depression. But I never had a cavity, my dentist always congratulates me on my good teeth.
I think genetics play a larger role then everything else.

Take care of your teeth y’all. I was homeless for a good chunk of my childhood and brushing my teeth was low on the priority list. I hadn’t gone to the dentist since I was 6. We finally got medical when I was 16 and I had 16 cavities. Had to get them all filled with silver fillings. It’s my biggest insecurity now. Make sure you make your kids take care of themselves y’all

@bentist thank you for addressing the health aspect of the video. It is definitely information we all need to know. Please address the insane cost of dental care and that teeth are not included with health insurance. Please help your audience know how to discuss billing and what we should ask to avoid being over charged or procedures that are unnecessary. Thanks!

Yes and get a tooth paste with xylitol if you are struggling with cavities. It prevents the bacteria from being able to stick to your teeth and helps prevent demineralization/ helps remineralizes teeth.

Dentists can scam you as well so be careful...I went to a Dentist who said I had 4 cavities but I went for a second opinion... The other Dentist said it's demineralisation of the enamel which didn't require a filling. I went for a third opinion and the third Dentist said the same thing... Be careful people

Over this past summer, I got a nasty dental infection. It was legit the worst pain I’ve ever felt, I could feel my heartbeat in my face. I couldn’t even sleep bc I was in so much pain. I tried to tough it out bc I had a root canal scheduled for the following week on that tooth, but my face kept swelling more and more. By the time I decided to go to urgent care, I couldn’t speak and all I could do was point at my swollen mouth and cry to the nurses. Urgent care was worried my throat would start swelling next so I got strong antibiotics and was told if it got any worse, I HAD to go to the ER.

Once I went in for the root canal, it cost me like $400, even with insurance. That isn’t including the crown I need either. I have a temporary cap (or what’s left of it lol) currently and it breaks down super fast.. So i just havent chewed on the right side of my face for the past 6 months bc i dont wanna break the little bit remaining my tooth. Im hoping i can afford the crown this next month, but i always got bills i could be paying instead yk.

“Healthcare” in this country (if you can call it that) is so fucked. How is it that I have good health insurance and work full time but can’t afford to get rid of a potentially dangerous infection??? It shouldn’t cost hundreds of dollars. My parents with good health insurance, are in SO much debt from my brother’s cancer treatment that im seriously worried they won’t be able to retire. Americas a joke fr. We got ppl dying from diabetes, cancer, and dental abscesses bc nobody can afford to get treated. But we also have ingredients in all of our food that makes our teeth breakdown faster, like extreme amounts of sugar, or ingredients that are carcinogenic. Also, public schools don’t generally educate people about the importance of BASIC hygiene bc it’s expected to be common sense even though teaching kids proper brushing would probably be really beneficial. I don’t think I brushed my teeth correctly (right sized toothbrush, getting all the way in back, brushing tongue, etc) until I was 17, I just did the bare minimum until I learned I wasn’t brushing right. Its almost like our country is setting its citizens up for failure.

I unlike my siblings didn't put braces, just for the simple reason that my smile actually looks decent and my teeth aren't crooked that much, i do use mouthwash semi daily and brush whenever i remember to which is about 4 days a week maximum, i have only had 1 cavity yet in my entire 20 years of existence

I have like 7 or 8 and it’s only gonna get worse until I can actually afford to get them fixed. And even then I get super nervous just for normal cleanings now cause I’m always getting straight up shamed for it. Like they always try to bully me into it immediately and it makes me not wanna go anymore. They act like there’s a way I’m gonna be able to make several thousand dollars appear out of thin air just for them. Can’t remember a time in the last 4 years that I didn’t leave the dentist office ashamed and embarrassed.

What also helps is an annual dental checkup because they can catch them early on. I've had a cavity for two years now but they monitor it and it hasn't gotten bigger since so they recommended not to bother as long as it remains stable. I never floss though.

I will also say that some of the big corporate dentistry places might over diagnose cavities. I went in for an estimate and was told I had THIRTEEN. I go to another dentist who runs the same tests doing just as thorough a job. I had two cavities. Got them fixed; it was covered by insurance and my teeth are happy and I am happy as can be about it.

SO depending on where he went he might’ve had ten cavities or they might have just made him some $3, 000 holes and filled em back in. I would not have believed a place would do that if I hadn’t witnessed it firsthand.
