The Agusta A129 Mangusta (English: Mongoose) is an attack helicopter originally designed and produced by Italian company Agusta. It is the first attack helicopter to be designed and produced wholly in Europe. It has continued to be developed by AgustaWestland, the successor company to Agusta. The A129 has undergone several combat deployments since entering service with the Italian Army in the 1990s.

A derivative of the A129, the TAI/AgustaWestland T129 ATAK, is being developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in cooperation with AgustaWestland. TAI will produce the T129 for the Turkish Army and potentially export customers.

The TAI/AgustaWestland T129 ATAK is a twin-engine, tandem seat, multi-role, all-weather attack helicopter based on the Agusta A129 Mangusta platform. The T129 was developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) with partner AgustaWestland. The helicopter is designed for advanced attack and reconnaissance missions in hot and high environments and rough geography in both day and night conditions.

The ATAK programme was begun to meet the Turkish Armed Forces' requirements for an attack and tactical reconnaissance helicopter. The T129 is the result of the integration of Turkish developed high-tech avionics, air-frame modifications, and weapon systems onto the combat proven AgustaWestland A129 airframe, with upgraded engines, transmission and rotor blades. It is in use by the Turkish Army, and is being offered to other services.

What’s the point ? the Turkish T129 it’s a development of the A129., which has been in service from 1990. Italy is working on a new attack helicopter.

t129 is a modified aw129, turkey bought the license. there is no version of aw129, model d is much more powerful. now the next will be aw249 in design, bigger and more powerful

Basically The Turkish one is faster and slightly bigger, while the Italian one is more heavily armed against aerial targets .

A-129 Mangusta is a helicopter developed from the late 70's and started flying in the 80's. The italian company agusta helicopters bought the english company westland helicopters in 2000, forming augustawestland. the British have nothing to do with this helicopter, in fact they have the ah-64 apache. in 2010 the Italian army asked for the updating of some specimens belonging to its fleet, the company modified 30 machines in the internescional version. increasing, 294km / h performance, 5800m tangency, and agility, bringing the climbing speed from 10m / s to 13.5m / s, bringing the machine's performance back to high standards of maneuverability. the Turkish version has a climbing speed of 8m / s. this updated version was called A-129 EES. another 24 aircraft have been upgraded with optronic systems, Rafael TOPLITE III, for electronic warfare and are named ARH-129D. the Turkish T-129 and a licensed A-129, all the modifications that distinguish the 2 aircraft were made by the Turkish companies and include several engines and a type of avionics manufactured in Turkey. there is no collaboration between the Italian and Turkish companies in the development of the T-129.
