People, don't listen to these cynics on here bashing Scotty's technique. It works! I cleared my CEL the night of 8/10/14 and passed inspection 8/11/14 at 5:45pm. My monitor status ok'd quickly but one. My CEL came on 30 minutes after inspection and I laughed. My car performance isn't affected by this code so who cares. Scotty is a man of the people and not greedy like some knowledgeable mechanics.

complex feedback system, 20 different things can actually trip that code. replacing a cat generally never fixes anything cause they only go bad from something making them go bad, like leaking fuel injectors or burning oil engines. Probably time to see a guy like me to analyze the whole system.

Thank you Scotty Kilmer! I have an aggressive p0430 code but car drives fine. I was clearing code with scanner but thinking I needed to drive 100 miles. I couldn't make it past 80 miles so thought I would be forced to replace cat. My registration expired July 2014 which gives me to August 15th. In one last effort I googled my situation and found your video amongst results. I used your technique by clearing CEL  the night of 8/10/14. I checked monitor status while driving that night and while leaving work the next day. It had all but one monitor ready, CEL still off and p0430 pending. I went straight to inspection station. PASSED!  Saved me hundreds of dollars!

2003 Avalon, CEL stays on & comes back immediately after clearing codes. I can hear the honeycomb stuff rattling around the Cat. A new Cat is more than value of car. Autozone pulled a P0420 code. Was going to try the Non-Fouler trick but impossible to get last 02 Sensor out due to it being old & stuck & started stripping. Took into shop, I had the bank 1 sensor 1 AF sensor replaced last week, CEL light went out finally-$440 parts & labor. Mechanic told me I needed to drive 50-100 miles to get emissions test. I drove 150 miles in several trips over 3 days, light still out. Then it came back the 4th day when I was going to work.
I followed Scotty & JayKay on this. (4 days from eom when registration/emissions due.) So I erased the CEL Codes with my Walmart code reader, drove 12 miles, all monitors ok except the EVAP monitor, still not ready. Went in for emissions and passed! Hell Yeah!

This ABSOLUTELY WORKED for me. I reset my codes and drove in the highway for about 15-20 min, all my computer systems we ready then except for CAT, (most states allow at least 1 or 2 to not be ready). I had a pending P0420 code stored, but since it was pending and not a fault it passed. This video is great 10/10 would recommend for anyone having cat converter issues and needs to pass emissions ASAP.

I just did that 2 weeks ago and it worked. Plus I did do the lacquer thinner before the inspection and it passed!

I have a Toyota 2000 with 250, 000 that I bought when I lived in California with a California Catalytic Converter, I'm now it Texas. I do sometimes get the P0240 but was able to pass the Texas inspection using the ODB II meter to see when I had two in-completes. If I moved to California again I would sell it however.
