The fact that Fable 2 never got a PC port is nothing short of criminal.

I had a roommate that would buy fable (it was new at the time), play through it, and then sell it to gamestop. Then about a month later would buy a used copy, beat the game and resell it. It made no sense, but he wouldn't listen to me when I told him to just keep the game.

I remember in Fable 1 there is a skill that allows you to replace your HP bar with your mana bar. So enemies can't damage you until they deplete your mana. As a result, I made a character that didn't level up any physical skills (thus was quite frail looking) and put everything into magic and archery. The result was an unkillable old man character that couldn't swing a hammer but could one shot everything in the game with a crossbow.

Speaking of bows, I also remember that bow damage in Fable 1 was based off of how long you held the button down. From what I recall, there is no cap, as I have fond memories of friends and I listening to songs on the radio while holding the button down the entire time, then releasing it after several minutes to deal massive bow damage. Good times.

I've played Fable 1 about a hundred times over the long years probably, but I haven't played it in the last 6 or 7 years. It's one of my all time favourites and I was 11 when it released, got it from a friend as a christmas gift that year. Over the years, the more I played it the more I was convinced that the game was a Real Estate simulator with a story on the side & RPG elements. I spent so much more time planning murders in order to free up homes to buy and rent than I spent gearing up and powering up my character. If say you've spent 100 hours playing the game, you've probably spent 80 to 85 of those hours being a cutthroat real estate agent and the rest of the time finishing the story, because it wasn't long.

I loved the original Fable when I was a kid. I still remember being like 14 and playing this for the first time back when it released.

Kingdoms of amalur I felt could have been a fable of game, for me it had a similar feel in many aspects

Between Xbox, PC, and Steam I couldn't count how many times I've played this game. It's 100% my comfort game. For those that don't like the Anniversary changes, I think you can still get the TLC version on Steam as well.
While 2 and (definitely) 3 don't hold up as well, I still enjoy revisiting them on occasion. But 1 is a game I'll always go back to.

This was a childhood gem back in the day, it’s such a base (and I say that to mean…idk foundational?) experience for a child on the typical hero’s journey. I love that “hero” is more of a neutral job in this game, instead of a good guy title exclusively.

This was one of my favorites growing up, this and Black and White 2 I recall being my first 'proper' games back in the day.

I had quite a similar memory of the Fable trilogy (i.e. very fond memories of the first, not so much of the sequels), but was quite surprised upon replaying recently to find just how much more I preferred the second game when separating nostalgia.

The third was basically as I remembered, but with better music than I gave it credit for.

Will be following this review trilogy! Can never get enough of the Fables!

I loved the first Fable game. I bought it (the non Lost Chapters version) by saving up money from my job as a fast food worker when I was in high school. It's absolutely wild to think that was 20 years ago now, time flys, man!

I remember my friend and I buying this game 20 years ago. He beat the game before I even opened my copy so I returned it and never played it. Here 20 years later I'm gonna finally play on Steam Deck. What a great time to be a gamer!

I remember hearing Fable was way too casual compared to the other RPGs I'd played at that point. But when I got into it a few years later it was actually quite solid. I didn't mind the simplicity of it.

Fable 2 and 3 I also had heard bad things about, but I had some free time a few years later and they appealed to me in quite a similar way. But then I found it more fun to get to buy houses than being worried about the game being too easy in any way.

The main memory I have of this game was being able to walk through town farting, having villagers be like “eew!”

Yeah, been a while…

I played this game a lot as a teenager back in the day! I'm looking forward to your review.
