I believe sounding was used in the treatment of damage caused by some sexually transmitted diseases. Scarring in the urinary tract causes constriction or blockage and the tissue needs to be stretched by a series of "Sounds" each slightly larger that the previous one. They are used to allow urine to pass without discomfort or for many extreme pain.
Sounds are producer using medical grade stainless steel. Around about 20 cm long. The smallest is only a few millimetres in width progessing up in size to 15 mm or there abouts. They come in sets of 8 - 10 I think. There is a slight curvature near the end to allow for the internal curvature of the urinary tract as the urethra joins the bladder.
Yes, Sounds are used as a sexual aid. Yes, the experience can be very pleasurable and intense. It is not a thing you should EVER attempt to do without someone with suitable experience. A good understanding of your bodies physiology is also needed as it is possible to cause severe internal damage if such use is attempted without careful preparation and gentle patience.
