The verdict is like a toothless tiger. The divorced woman has to fight for alimony. It would have been proper if the Court had said it was the duty of the government of India to ensure payment of alimony through affirmative state action. This is what Art 14 and Art 256 require. But the Court seems unwilling to eat its meaningless words that Art 14 is merely a rule of classification. Nothing can be expected from those who have studied jurisprudence only for a pass, using Allahabad notes.
