Elon Musk's Announcements Reveal What To Expect from Tesla's AI Day
Показать описание
Based on Elon Musk's announcements we should expect recruitment, robots and really power supercomputers from the upcoming Tesla AI Day on Aug. 19.
From now on, CEO Elon Musk no longer wants to attend the quarterly conference calls on Tesla's business figures regularly, as he said at the latest this week, but he is taking more time for live appearances this year. In mid-June, Musk was on a stage at the Fremont electric car plant to celebrate the handover of the first 25 Model S plaids. Shortly afterwards, he announced an information day on artificial intelligence (AI) at Tesla, and now he has also given a specific date for it.
Third official Tesla day in August
The first event Tesla referred to as "Day" took place in April 2019 and was titled Autonomy Investor Day. Officially, it was aimed at investors who should be informed about Tesla's progress in autonomous driving, including the FSD computer it had developed itself. This was followed by Battery Day, which was postponed many times in September 2020, on which Musk presented the long-term strategy for masses of cells in its own 4680 format (see photo above with technology boss Drew Baglino). Fans had expected even more from it, as well as later from the plaid deliveries this June, which were only announced as an event instead of a full day.
In any case, the third official Tesla Day is to be held on August 19, a Thursday, Musk now wrote on Twitter. He called it AI Day, which is the abbreviation for artificial intelligence. The Tesla boss did not initially name the place, time or other circumstances. But perhaps to avoid exaggerated expectations and thus new disappointments, shortly after the announcement he repeated an important caveat: The “only goal” of the day is to attract the best AI talent for Tesla, he wrote.
On Tuesday, Tesla began sending out invitations for the company's AI Day on August 19, announced by CEO Elon Musk, for an information event on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). In the run-up, Musk had tried to dampen high-flying expectations by stating that Tesla's AI day was solely intended to attract new staff. But the invitation that has now been sent aroused new speculations.
Tesla AI not just for electric cars.
The event will therefore take place from 5 p.m. local time in Palo Alto and is only open to invited guests. Musk is to give a keynote speech, Tesla engineers are to demonstrate hardware and software, and test drives with the Model S Plaid are announced. And Tesla is suggesting that it has even more plans: Participants should also get an “inside look” at what is planned with AI beyond the vehicle fleet.
The last point in particular aroused curiosity. This is all the more true as a photo of a chip system (probably generated in a computer) can be seen on the invitation (see above). According to analyzes by knowledgeable Twitter commentators, it could show the Dojo chip announced by Musk, with which Tesla wants to build a supercomputer with an exaflop of computing power for training its neural autopilot networks. At about the same time, the photo was also published by a robotics professor who suggested a partnership with Tesla.
