I think we're really stretching the definition of "megalopolis" by trying to apply it to any loose grouping of a few small cities. Most of these have a significant amount of rural land between them too.

"Mini-mega" now that is an oxymoron.

As someone from eastern Washington, Yakima to Pasco is just a bunch of farms along the river

Yakima to Kennewick is definitely not anything close to a contiguous community. There are vast stretches of farmland between each small town.

Surprised you didn’t do Texas’ Rio Grande Valley there’s almost 3 million people down there between the Texas and Mexico sides.

As someone who lives in Michigan, I disagree with the tri-cities being considered a mini-megalopolis. The cities are within 10 miles of each other, but it's very rural between the cities and there aren't really any built-up corridors connecting the cities at any point. It would take significant population growth in Michigan as well as more economic opportunity and less crime in Saginaw and Bay City for enough people to move there to turn the tri-cities area into a mini-megalopolis. I think it's more likely that Kalamazoo and Battle Creek get more population growth and become a mini-megalopolis.

Yakima and tri cities are the only urban parts of the "megaopolis." It's like a 60-mile gap of just farmland

There is also the Northwest Arkansas region including: Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville. Collectively they have a population of around 590, 000 and is growing fast!

I can't imagine people thinking that Yakima and Tri-cities are a "metropolitan area." 😂 They're quite far apart. Over 83 miles. The towns in between are quite rural and fairly far apart also. Very few people are commuting between Yakima and Kennewick. It would be kind of bizarre. Yakima isn't a major business destination by any stretch of the imagation.

As someone who grew up in a super densely populated area of Los Angeles County I always wondered what life would’ve been like if I grew up in one of these small lesser known ones

The section of I-64 from Huntington to Charleston WV is like this but on the night sky map looks like one unbroken string of lights, very rare for Appalachia.

You could do several of these shorts, the first one of these that came to mind was the Fayetteville-bentonville AR megalopolis

I grew up in the Tri Cities of Michigan and still have friends in the area. It's a little strange as they are connected to each other, yet not connected to each other at the same time. It's hard to explain, but it gets pretty rural real quick outside of the Cities and surrounding suburbs
