A young woman with an extremely rare condition which means she can’t come into contact with water has revealed the tragic struggle of her day-to-day life.

Niah Selway, 21, from Hastings, East Sussex, has become well-known online as ‘the girl who’s allergic to water’, has now talked openly about how her illness is preventing her from leading a normal life.

Aquagenic Pruritus is an extremely rare form of allergy, with very scarce case studies and unknown underlying causes, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Niah’s case is so severe that a single drop of water on her skin can cause intense pain all over her body for several hours.

I have something very similar called Aquagenic Urticaria. Basically the same thing, my skin breaks out in hives around the same time as hers after being in contact with water. It’s the rarest allergy known right now and there are less than 100 reported medical cases of it

I met a guy that was allergic to water. EVERYONE thought he was just crazy b/c our bodies are mostly water. He said it burn his inside drinking it and he felt awful. No body caring about me I have something like this. It is not as sever but after 5 mins in the pool I get hives everywhere. Having a shower is a challenge. I don’t know what it is. My doctors don’t even know. I’m sick of it it sucks
