Idle Relearn Procedure | Honda S2000

I finally figured out the flickering issue when using GoPro clips so I should have that solved in future videos: )

Hey everyone, today I’m going to show you how to perform the idle relearn procedure on a Honda S2000. This can be useful to do after disconnecting the battery or cleaning the IACV. When I performed this myself I ran into some issues so I just want to make this clear for anyone that tries to do this.

Steps
1. The first thing you want to do is erase the ECU memory. The most common ways to do this are to disconnect the battery or to remove the back up fuse from the fusebox underneath the dashboard.
2. Once the battery is connected or the fuse is replaced you have to warm up the car. Before you start the car make sure there is no electrical load on the system. Make sure your headlights are off, the stereo is off, and any accessories are unplugged.
3. The shop manual suggests starting the car and pegging the car at 3000 RPM until the engine comes to operating temperature. I’m guessing this is suggested as the safest and most efficient way for a Honda technician to warm up the car in the repair bay. It is possible for the electronic power steering light to come on during this step as the system can think a fault exists in the system if the engine sustains a higher RPM without any steering input. Don’t be afraid of this. As soon as you take the car for a spin the light should disappear and the electronic power steering should come back.
4. Once the engine is warm, let the idle for about 5 minutes. This is when the ECU is actually relearning how to idle the car properly.
5. Once enough time has passed make sure the idle is operating normally. Rev the car a few times and ensure that the idle does not drop below roughly 800 RPM. Take the car for a spin to get rid of any potential electronic power steering lights..

This was terrific. Idle was racing all last season but I endured it because I didn't go out much with the pandemic. This year i was determined to do something about it. I was even thinking about taking it to a shop. Fortunately, I came across this video! While watching the video, I had an epiphany - Crap! this was a self inflicted problem. I swapped out the battery at the beginning of last season and never properly reset the ecu! Thanks to you it is now properly rest!

Lately my AP1 s2000 has been stalling when I’m driving and push in the clutch to shift gears … the funny thing is I have no actual Idle problems when the car is parked/ stationary, idles at 800ish rpm’s smoothly … I had cleaned the MAP sensor and it was good for about 2 weeks … now it stalls again when driving

Ciao. Ti seguo dall’Italia, complimenti per il video. Ho provato a fare la procedura, ma il relearning non si avvia.

It’s not helping my idle still, I just cleaned the IACV and after that the revs just started bouncing rapidly from about 1600 to 1700 RPMs, and it won’t stop even after doing all this.

Is this relearning process only for Honda or can it work for other makes and models?

I'm a noob, can someone tell me why this is needed? Is it only for AP1's?
