I will never be caught dead driving through Oakland regardless of it is freeway or not. The whole area has a bad scary vibe even on the freeway. When I drive into Los Angeles, I can feel an exciting vibe. Oakland is an entirely different country. I once had to drive through the city of Oakland on the surface street. I didn't feel comfortable stopping at the red light even. It really has this negative vibe that feels like entire city is possessed by evil spirit.
