The main reason for buying an e-reader is their ink technology.
Not too much strain for our eyes like any other screen.

My main gripe with the Kindle is the screen size. I recently repurposed an older tablet with a larger screen and have been using that most of the time. I put anti-glare screen protector on it and use the blue light filter. So far it's my go to reader.

If you're a student like me and thinking about buying a kindle or a tablet, here's my advice: if you're more into reading pdf's, especially academic texts, get the tablet, kindle is good for novels but only for that, they're not good for pdf reading, especially for your reviewers or books. I made the mistake of purchasing a kindle; I enjoy reading, but due to my difficult subjects, particularly pharmacology, I can't read novels; I need to read academic books and pdf formatted modules of ours, and the kindle can't help me with that; hopefully, you won't make the same mistake in selecting a gadget.

Books will never become completely obsolete.

I'd rather have a dedicated ebook reader. I have my phone for the other things that a tablet can do.

I have a galaxy tab A but i dont use it for reading and it irritates my eyes when using the kindle app. I always read on my kindle Paperwhite 4.

I have a Kindle fire hd 8 and Kindle Paperwhite which I both love. I like my tablet because I can access all my books in one place and I can download books through my library's digital app. I use my Paperwhite when I'm reading Amazon Kindle books or if I want to return outside.

I much prefer reading on a tablet over an e-ink device. I have a Kindle Paperwhite and an Amazon Fire 7, and I exclusively use the Fire 7. Goes with me everywhere, and I average about 2 to 3 hours per day of reading on it during the workweek, up to about 6 or 7 hours on Sundays. For me, it is flawless. Perfect size, durable (especially with the case and sleeve I have for mine), easy for me to keep in my work bag to read on during lunch break, and the screen is nice. Great color and contrast. I have 125 books in my Kindle App library, and a further 130 books in PDF format that I read using the Moon+ Reader app. The experience the Fire 7 provides is absolutely perfect for me.

I have an ipad and have tried reading books on it but I’ve noticed i get distracted by the other apps on it. I just ordered a kindle paperwhite 4. I’m excited to start reading on it because it eliminates distraction and I’m sure I’ll read a lot more.

I have a tablet and I can read ebooks on it plus colourful comics and graphic novels. Kindle doesn't stand a chance in reading coloured graphic novels.

It’s impossible to “backlight” an e-ink display all ereaders are lit by downward facing leds behind the bezel.

There will always be a want for physical books. I always needed a physical book for school..the flipping of pages, quick sticky notes and tabs made it faster than electronics. Also no charging, works in any light, and doesn’t strain my eyes like a tablet or e-reader!

Can the Kindle accept an outside, plug in source, to load other books. Or is it only web dependent?

All good points... the benefit of the e-readers is less stress on your sight... unlike a tablet is very bright no matter how much you dim the screen...

my kindle is frustrating because it can't read PDFs very well once they are transcribed from images. But if I leave them as image based, then the pages are too small and crowded. I feel like with a tablet this wouldn't be such a worry

I try kindle but i abandoned after a while. Nothing can compete against a real book. When you read you have to go back and forth in pages many times and this is a pain with e-Reader i.e. scroll down, put number of that page you want to go back and forth, no easy annotation e.t.c.
