ARCHER Shoot and Scoot

The modern battlefield is characterized by a multitude of threats and challenges. In order to improve survivability, combat units must be able to work together effectively. The tasks of the artillery may include preparation fire over long distances, suppressing fire, and being able to follow fast-moving ground forces for several days. Fast emplacement and displacement is crucial for delivering fire support when needed, as well as avoiding counter-battery fire. BAE Systems' Archer needs less than 30 seconds from the time the operators receive a call for fire, to stop the vehicle, position for action, and fire the first round. Less than 30 seconds after the mission is accomplished, Archer is on the move again. Archer can get into place, fire six rounds, displace, and move 500m in less than two minutes, while the crew remains in an armored cabin.

The combination of Archer’s features sets it apart from other artillery systems: The superior range; high rate of fire; rapid emplacement and displacement; mobility; crew work environment; and safety, to name a few. Parts of the Archer capabilities may feature in other systems out there, but bring together the full portfolio of capabilities to the warfighter in one single system the way Archer does.

This is especially impressive for mobility. Artillery shooting, then disappearing, and shooting again, and again moving. Impossible to locate from this far and to aim back and shoot.

whats even more impressive is that the Archer system has a special firing mode in which it fires consecutive rounds in decreasing angles of inclination while adjusting the propellant load, causing up to 4-5 shells to impact almost simultaneously in the single target area. Crazy hail of death that is

The Archer was already on the move just before the first impact! This will change how we perceive artillery in the future.

Never messed around with Sweden Archer. Self loaded long range artillery. I think one of the best.

Back on the move before the first shell even lands. Truly incredible

Damnn, 3 artillery shots in 17 seconds, and it gets out of Dodge! That is beyond impressive

This is a simple but impressive way of showing the effectivity of this system. Can't argue with real numbers and video evidence.

The fact that it’s already on the move once that first round impacts is both phenomenal and scary. Just imagine a handful of these camouflaged and scattered amongst rural areas

Very impressive. Essentially relatively immune to radar based counter battery file. However subject to drone or aircraft reconnaissance and attack or directed counter battery fire. Each howitzer unit should hopefully be accompanied by an anti-air unit - guns and missiles. All in all very impressive.

I loved this unit in the RS game: Tom Clancy's EndWar . It was amazing how realistic the portrayal of the near-future European military units in that game were.

As an ex military and a current truck driver, I loved everything about this video.

Very impressive, Sweden has a history of producing fast-shooting artillery, starting with the "bandkanon" that was the largest and fastest firing recoil-operated 155mm artillery for years!.

Literally already driven off by the time the first round impacts... that is straight up badass and almost not even fair. Me likey.

Huh, I always thought these were just some fictional self-propelled artillery vehicles dreamt up for a game. I had no idea these actually exist and perform exceedingly well. Feeling a little nostalgic I had just recently reinstalled and have been playing Tom Clancy's: Endwar again, where most of the combat vehicles presented are completely fictional but feature or showcase weapon systems or design concepts that were or are currently still in development. This is due to the near-future setting (at the time of it's release) of a third world war breaking out between the U.S., the Russian Federation as well as the "European Commonwealth" in the year 2020. The Archer is the artillery unit deployed by the European Commonwealth military, the so-called "Enforcer Corps."

Amazing how the artillery has moved before the first round falls!

Proud to have welded parts for BAE, and my uncle used to build the test targets for missiles in Florida.

That weapon was back on the move before the first round landed. Amazing. I was a Tanker in the Army and never had I seen one of those before.

That pretty much eliminates the chances of it being taken out by counter battery fire. Even a drone would have difficulty keeping up with that and it would only have a chance if it happened to be loitering in the vicinity, anyway.

The ultimate road rage solution. I've been told the one weak point in this artillery vehicle is it has only two cup holders and 8-track.
