Comparing K9 and Ceasar Shoot and Scoot capacity

Interesting edit of two movies. It raises a lot of questions in the different systems capacity when it comes to:
Survivability against counter artillery firing. Fatigue of the crew. Protection of the crew when firing. 360 firing with out changing position. Mobility when following tracked combat units.

Ukraine war proved that artillery is still king of the battle. Foreign volunteer fighters in Ukraine are complaining that they never see Russian soldiers just Russian shelling from their artillery killing from far distance. S Korea is equipped with 3000 SP artillery (K9, K55 and K105HT), 5000 105/155mm towed artillery, 6000 60/81/107/120mm mortars and 570 MRL(360 K239, 58 M270 and 156 K136) seating on 12 million rounds (during WW2, total of 11 million rounds were used) enough to deal with Chinese army :)-

Very interesting video in terms of comparing 21 century self propelled artillery 2 types when it comes to readiness speed

By the way ... Does external activity protect you from enemy chemical attacks?

Now compare the Caesar to a towed howitzer, then we'll see what it's really intended to replace.

but caesar was designed for air transportability ... expeditionary forces. try loading a k9 into a c130 or A400m

Only three crews in the K9. The firing gives the location of the artillery. They need to run away as soon as possible.

I'm not 100% sure but having been on a m109a6 for 1 year, that it can shoot faster then the k9. However the loading system in the K9 is a lot less physical for the crew.

But you can’t compare these artillery, if you do, do it well, take an other artillery but the same type like Auf F1. Caesar is way more flex, he is faster, he have a better autonomy, he can be put in a plane, he have no less than 40km in standard shell range, better for any reparation during a war (more simple, less weigt). He don’t need too much logistic and it’s an important point in modern war, so he is made for modern war,

Not the same platform, it's like comparing a car and a truck, and saying : yep truck is better it carry more weigth 😂.

On my opinion, i find caesar more usefull for external operation (majority of occidental war), with the capacity to be carried by plane ! Good fuel consomption, faster, good comfort, good range, very accurate, easy to maintain etc ...

And the k9, more défensive (precisely the Korean doctrine against north korea, indeed 😉) an heavy machine, good to stay static, normal consomption, pretty good gun, but inconfortable like a tank, hard to maintain, it's shot quickly but go slowly etc ...

They are different systems, one made for urban environment and one for field.

The crew is a weak link - fatigue would play a large role here.

We cannot compare them. They were not developed with the same objectives. The CAESAR was developed for its mobility, to go everywhere and over long distances. He has already been engaged in the Malian desert, the mountains of Afghanistan. Thing that the K9 can't do because it's built in a different logic

All very nice but many things to consider...

First, let's start the clock from a hiding area, you know, like 5km away. I bet you the Caesar gets to the firing position first. Because its speed is actually 50% faster.

Next, not quite sure the K9 can even make it to the shooting position depending on the terrain/season. You know, because it's 3x heavier. Good luck with chewing up the road or sinking in the mud. Ukraine being a prime example. Light, wheeled vehicles can do wonders.

So, it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Wheels and tracks. One tyre blew you could still on the move. Once the tracked blews, you're mobility dead.

Ceasar is the evolution of towed artillery. Don't compete self-propelled.
