In the realm of mobile artillery, the Archer Artillery System has emerged as a game-changer, revolutionizing the way artillery units operate on the modern battlefield. This advanced weapon system, developed by BAE Systems in collaboration with the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, or FMV, combines mobility, precision, and rapid response capabilities like never before.

On Thursday, March 16, the Swedish government recently approved the decision to transfer eight Archer self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine based on an assessment of the country's armed forces. The Swedish government requested that the country's parliament include this as part of an additional draft budget.

Depending on the target and amount of shots, being able to go from 70km/h to stop, 30 seconds to fire ready and before the shots hit their target you have already packed up and are relocating is insane...

I rarely bother correcting this type of mistakes, but there's a first for everything: The system was developed by Bofors between 1995 - 1999. BAE Systems Bofors didn't come into play before 2005, when part of Bofors was bought by BAE Systems, and Archer has been marketed under that name since.

Sweden is giving a lesson to many Countries, namely the US which became lost in internal political wars forgetting that there is a decisive real war going on, or Poland which decided to withdraw all military aid to Ukraine - I guess they aim to fight the ruzzians themselves later - or Slovakia who forgot much too quickly that Freedom has a price that must be paid. And there are others.
Fortunately there are also noble people like the Scandinavians, the British, the Balts or the Dutch who are doing way more than the rest to keep Ukraine in the fight. With Nations like these, there is hope. 🇺🇦

Scandinavia, Sweden being on top when it comes to military technology, has always produced high-tech weaponry for different purposes. We sending Archer systems to Ukraine means not only that we want to help but we need to dispose of them because we have superior technology over the Archer systems today.
And if you've ever watched Discovery channel's "future weapons" program you'll see little Sweden is mentioned many times throughout the series.
We even have tech that automatically blow up artillery projectiles mid-air and then automatically fire on the enemy artillery system that was responsible for that said projectile. It's like IRL aimbotting.
I'm pretty impressed with how our little country actually produces top 3 military grade systems in the world.

The fun fact here is that the Swedish defense industry has been building weapons to fight the Russians over the last 60 years. Sadly we never got to see if the strv 103 would have been as effective as the designers thought.

What most channels analysing the archer miss is, that it can fire its gun when it is parallell to the ground just like a tank. So in defence where enemy suddenly appear, or offensive, with open terrain, it is a heavy sniper that can point directly head on enemy. That is a devastating feature outmatching any tank in power.

9 rounds per minute, average rate, 21 shells and 6 charges per shell standard load, 30 seconds from last shell fired to packed up and rolling, and from stop to firing. Full refill of one unit in 8 minutes, from a 100-reload ammo carrier using standard 20-foot containers, so any vehicle capable of carrying such can be used.
Using an armored Volvo 6x6 dumper vehicle, allows for practically over-the-shelf parts for easy of repair and/or replacement. High mobility, 65-70 kmh on road surfaces, and with a fuel tank allowing for 500 km range between refills. Large tires allowing for varying ground pressure, making it able to deal with a wide variety of surface conditions, from snow to mud to desert sand, much more so than a tracked vehicle, as well as 1 meter water depth when fording.
The vehicle is mine-resistant, CBRN-protected, ballistically armored, fire-resistant and the windshields are resistant to shrapnel and medium-level firearms(7.62 Nato). With the combat compartment closed, the crew is protected and self-sufficient for up to 24 hours, and while the standard crew is a gunner, a unit commander and up to 2 operators, it is capable of being run and used by just the one crew member.
For self-protection, the vehicle also have a remote-controlled weapons station on the driving compartment roof, capable of mounting a Minimi, FN MAG, Browning .50cal or a Mk. 19 40mm grenade machinegun, and is gyro-stabilized to allow for fire on target while moving. If something that cannot be fought with the weapon station threatens, it carries smoke launchers for cover while withdrawing.

In every way a remarkable bit of kit.

Archer and JAS/Gripen are designed for combat like in ukraine. They can be easily serviced, uses any modern weaponry and ammunitions. The same weaponry used on F35s and the cutting edge artilleries in the world. The gripen can land on any road and be pulled into the forest and serviced by a basic team. In combat where anyone will target an airplane at an airfield - you cannot afford to have airfields with your planes stored. With the archer being able to fire its rounds and just leave for deeping into your own territory to reduce the risk av counter battery fire is extremely useful. These types of systems would greatly benefit ukraine.
