I think the story told mostly by Isaac is more likely a story related closely to Edmund so he wanted to disconnect the game from his personal experiences and trauma caused by them.
What a fucking legend. This game came so far and was one of the reasons Ed did as well. Big clap

This cutscene, despite being a child drawing, kinda hits every spot if your home life and parent werent stable as a kid.

I personally took this to mean something different. Isaac is able to recount his death, and the events afterwards. But, being five years old, is unable to process why.

Isaac did die. His soul is stuck in purgatory. Eventually he met his father (actually *The* Father, God.) Who took pity on this lost wandering and abused soul, decided to try and help him find peace. To help him finally rest. And so, just as Isaac's Father did, God and Isaac begin playing this game, recounting made up adventures, using Isaac's imagination and abused life as a base. Every run needs just another iteration of this tale, told over and over again by God to help Isaac try to come to peace with his life and death.

It was never the dying dreams of a guilt-ridden child, but a shared story by a father and son influenced by the latter's incredible (if disturbing) imagination. What a fantastic ending to an incredible game.

I can relate to Isaac when his dad said "He saw his one true companion, Alive and Well." It really gets me in the feels because my cat died without a cause his name was Armin and he dissappeared and he was my only friend in childhood. I cry everytime when I see it.

My theory is that some of the events with Isaac's mother were actually true. She was abusive due to her obsessive faith. I think Isaac's father saved him somehow and now he lets Isaac tell those stories as a form of an autotherapy - I don't think that a regular child would have such an interesting imagination, Isaac is just 5 after all.
Or they are just a happy family with a weird kid and everything is a lie, I don't know, it's just a theory :D

Does that mean that the isaac you've been fighting in the cathedral has always been a version that failed full ascension and has no memory? The "Unhappy" ending, where Issac is nothing but an empty vessel that no longer has any purpose, a mindless angel of death to roam in that room until he is encountered and defeated.

Isaac likes to draw, just like our man edmund, who is well know to have kind of a weird, dark but very cool imagination, influenced by religion, pop culture, medicine and regular stuff, man, this game is just a love letter

The way I look at this...it's *not* a fucked up bedtime story. The new story is Isaac's Heaven, put in a way that Isaac can understand. He went through Hell and back to repent for his sin of suicide. he looked deep within him and conquered everything that ruined his life: his shame. his insecurities. his fears. his Mother. the wish to have never been born. the devil within him. the devil beyond the walls of his home. his own insanity. the corruption of television. The greatest evil his mind could comprehend...

and so, he repented and has been accepted into heaven. his heaven. molded to the thing he wanted more than anything else: A happy family, living together in a house on the top of a hill.
