The best 2024 Kia Sportage is the Hybrid. The horsepower is 227 compared to the model that you tested. The fuel mileage combined is 40 mpg, again much better that your test model. Pricing similar to the non-hybrid models.

Back in the 1970s, Toyotas were considered cheap, junky cars for the poor. They evolved over the decades into the respectable and desireable cars of today. KIA is following the same path. It is nice to see an under $30k car with good fit, finish, and features in 2024. This is a great starter car for a college student or a young family. And, no, I don't think of $30k as a small fee. But we should all recognize that norms change over time. Back in the day, everyone could have a house and car. People are poorer today and that concept has changed. The real question is are KIAs reliable enough so that when it is 5-10 years old this Sportage will be a nice durable, reliable car for a teen or an adult who doesn't have enough money to cover major repairs. The problem is that durability has been ditched in the car industry, not to reduce price, but to reduce production costs assuming the customer won't keep the car that long. Also known as programmed obsolescence. My BMW has a plastic valve cover, water pump impeller and plastic timing chain guides. As I said, norms and expectations have changed. I am not expected to keep my current BMW for 15-20 problem-free years like I did my last BMW. I bet the same assumption holds true for this "cheap" KIA.

I bought an SX Prestige hybrid AWD. Awesome vehicle but came in at $40k. Love it! I think the HEV is the one to go with for better mpg and more power response.

Quite a difference in MPGs compared to the Honda CRV Sport L front wheel drive. Honda MPGs are better.
