This is the all-new Kia Sportage!

Mat’s got his hands on this all-new family-friendly SUV to see if it has what it takes to compete with class leaders like the Volkswagen Tiguan!

So what’s new with the Sportage? Well for starters, it’s definitely more striking than its predecessor! Around the back, you’ll find taillights and looks which are similar to the EV6, while upfront you’ll find a striking grille and some more aggressive bits of trim in the bumper (at least, you will if you choose the GT Line trim).

It looks good once you take a step inside, too. There’s a large infotainment & dials screen up front, along with plush feeling, high-quality materials throughout.

When it comes to performance, you’ve got a choice of diesel, petrol and hybrid engines. The top-of-the-range is the plug-in hybrid, where the 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine combines with an electric motor to deliver 265hp! What’s more, it’s not exactly that expensive either, with the price starting at around £27,000!

So what do you think - is it worth it? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

This is why I love Carwow. They review exotic cars that other couldn't get their hands on, do amazing drag races, and still they review cars that others can actually afford. Matt's hella fun, he reviews spot-on, no bias and stuff. If he got something to say bad about that car then he says it. Probably one of the best car channel here in YouTube.

I used to work for Kia around 18 years ago when lots of their cars felt like they came from North not South Korea. It’s really impressive how far they’ve come.

I am not sure if anyone explained the brake thing and I am a bit late here, but it is literally called creep groan (so your description was perfect). What is going on is the static coefficient of friction and the dynamic are different. The static friction coefficient along with the force on the pads determines when something can brake free and start moving while the dynamic coefficient determines the braking force when the surface of the rotor is moving. At specific forces from your caliper, typically when creeping forward, you are hitting the point where it can brake free and move, but then the dynamic forces kick in which are higher and stop the movement. Then they brake free again, then they stop, and so on. It is called stick slip. The constant stopping and starting causes a vibration which sounds like a groan. This kind of thing is often exacerbated by low temps or humidity as they affect the friction coefficients of the pads which can then make creep groan worse. Some cars also exhibit this phenomenon near the end of a regular braking stop and we often call that graunch.

There's essentially two solutions, change the pad material or try to dampen the vibration. Of course a different pad material can cause other issues and dampening the vibration often leads to more weight and cost.

I don't think Tuscon and Sportage are ugly at all, I really like the way it looks. Kia didn't go for the traditional looks and I appreciate it.

Yass love the more “normal” reviews just as much as the fancy cars. Thank you Mat.

I had a 2006 kia sportage LX, bought new right before going to college. Sold it locally with 260, 000 miles four years ago. I still see it putting around town to this day.

I've had mine (HEV 3) for a couple of months now and done just over 1200mls, mainly on motorway. The consumption shows a healthy 50-55mpg on the motorway and around 40-42mpg in town (I'm not ma very fast driver, I enjoy the car very much so don't rush around often and always drive in Eco mode). It is pretty fast when I put my foot down if I need to get out of trouble, however the revving drives me mad, I honestly thought that there might be something wrong with the gearbox but now seeing your review I realise it's something I have to live with. Doesn't happen very often that I notice it, it's just something I could do without. Other than that, I am exceptionally pleased that I went for this Kia after researching different makes for around 6 months - Very luxurious inside, lots of space front and back, great look with the large screens, easy to use and manouvre. The mid range is perfect if you're after something a bit extra but without the hefty price tag.

Finally a review of a normal car. That people can actually afford. A family car also with no need for a drag race. Welcome back Mat we've missed you.

Yes, we are back to normal everyday car reviews! Love all the fast powerful expensive stuff. However it's nice to see Mat and carwow back doing proper affordable reviews. For a wee while there we didn't see many of them.

KIA has really upped their game over the past few years. I remember my dad had a 2006 Sportage back in the day and seeing how much it has changed over the year is insane. They’re such good cars when you take care of them. We had ours for 10 years? And it was still in excellent shape when we ended up selling it. And the way they look now, inside and out, im actually considering buying one myself when i get the money together. This Sportage is beautiful.

Just got the GT Line S Sportage 2022 have driven M5's, 530's, A6's, equipment list on this thing is ridiculous compared to any other car I have had. I am not after speed anymore, just comfort, convenience, tech and easy ownership....Sportage delivers in spades.

8:17 The brake pads and rotors are glazed. This causes the groaning noise because the car is trying to move against the brakes. Seen this happen in almost all cars when holding with the brakes on a downgrade and the pressure on the brakes is released slightly. But I thought most clutchless cars overcame this problem these days because they don't power the wheels to move unless the brake is released completely. You can't help it on a downgrade though.

I' ve tried one of these few days ago and the gearbox is so much smoother than the Tiguans DSG.

The Sportage was Matt's first car review on Carwow back in 2016(or 2017🤔). Glad to say that I watched that review in the same hour that it came out🔥
Now here we are with the new one🔥

I can't belive not that long ago nobody wanted Kia, Hyundai, Acura or Lexus. Now it's actually something that you want to spend money on.

This is the best car review I watched so far! I love it how real you were and how you didn't sugarcoat anything!

There is a difference between what a car is allowed to tow and what is wise to tow. Generally speaking a maximum of 75% of the vehicle weight is advised. As such this KIA might be a better tow car than something else with a lower curb weight but a higher allowed towing capacity.
