Pedal arms are also called crank arms and you usually need a special tool to do this. These are easy and cheap to buy online and Jon shows you how he uses them and gives you some tips to avoid common issues such as damaging the crank axle thread and stripping the thread in the pedal arm recess.

Jon - Great instructional video on crank arm removal. Thanks for the excellent tip of inserting a large head screw into the bolt hole. Prior to watching your video, I was not able to get the crank arms on my Proform stationary bike to budge and was worried about damaging the bolt hole and crank arm threads. After I inserted the screw, the Crank Arm puller slid the crank arm off with minimal effort and there was no damage to any threads!

Hi Jon
Just used your excellent video to remove the pedal arms from my excercise bike, which bizarrely is the same model as the one used in your tutorial!
The problem I have is after many years of albeit light use, the resistance doesn’t increase even though it’s displaying on the control panel.
I’ve tried very hard to find someone to come and fix it but there isn’t anyone up here in the NE.
My neighbour things maybe the small motor has gone which applies the resistance.
Any advice would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks
Graham
