How to fix and tighten up a loose and wobbly crank on your bike

Occasionally the crank on on your bike may become loose and wobbly. This can effect your riding abilities and more importantly it can potentially be dangerous as it can eventually fall off and causing injury - or leaving you stranded on a long bike ride.

With a few simple tools and steps, you can tighten it up.

Thanks.

Thank you. After watching a few other videos on this same problem with the crank getting loose, yours was the easiest to follow. I was able to fix the issue at home with the tools I had. 😊

Thank you. I couldn't figure this out. The bolt has no room between it and the arm to get a tool into it. Now I know I was trying to tighten it from the wrong place. I replaced so many things on this bike and then discovered the crank arm was loose.

Thanks. My wrench wouldn't fit in there but I was able to tighten it by hammering with a large flat-head screwdriver and a rubber mallet.

After i unscrewed the thing with a screwdriver and hammer, under the thing there is no bolt to tighten, it is just a long pipe going to the pedals. So i cant tighten it. any help

For some reason the lock thing didn’t move so I had to unscrew the bottom bracket with the tool then remove then nut then tighten the bottom bracket then tighten the nut but it worked in the end, thanks!

Hi great video thank you 🙏 quick question how would I move the axel across slightly as crank side pedal arm is hitting frame slightly when peddling ( just got bike back from the bike shop they said they didn’t adjust it but was fine when I took it in ) they refuse to adjust unless I pay

Thank you, I will do mine today. It's been so annoying having it wobbly and the chain keeps coming off 🤪👍

Good video. My Trek bike doesn't have that last nut to tighten. It is the axe shaft itself that has some moderate give. Now can Dan The Man tell me how to remove it so that I may replace it with another?

i cant seem to possibly tighten it more. is there a chance that a bearing is broken on the inside?
