OMG thank you so much!!! After switching from Win10 to Win11 I couldn't access my NAS from Win Explorer anymore. The Synology Assistant really seemed to help, in combination with the other options. I was able to add my drive using the ip-adress. Thanks!

Bro worked like a charm. I have 12 year old NAS Buffalo and it shut off after my network got taking out after a lighting strike. Fried my router (Cause Florida). Anyways I had pictures of my mother who passed away in 2021 that I can now retrieve. I cannot thank you enough. Please keep making videos like this.😀

Never underestimate the value of a router restart. I spent the best part of a day going through as many gyrations as I could. Was irritated I couldn't run group policy editor. I dug and dug and dug...device was visible on every device in the house except my laptop. Almost made a pay-support call to my episode, a router reboot did the trick. Don't know why, but I'll not argue/debate the success. It might be worth a try before all the registry editing, luck.

Thank you sir. I recently had to replace my laptop and W11 was another gem of hidden mysteries like this one. Yes my NAS is older and being a non IT person, I'd never have figured this out despite my numerous searches. It was the SMB settings in windows features at 9:00 that fixed it...and didn't need to restart my server.

Poor job of understanding the customer and house of quality by MS.

I would like to point out that if you have set your NAS firewall to block all, you wont be able to access it. Be sure to allow the specific ports required for access.

Brian you mentioned the network setting for private. Now I do not have a NAS and just have a few machines that I sometimes want to connect to each other ie a printer for example so what settings should I use for that purpose?

Synology Assistant worked for my NAS which somehow I lost after upgrading to a 5G Router. Thank you very much for your help.

One of the most common reasons that I've seen is mismatched IP addresses. I have seen quite a few NAS setup videos where the presenter suggests that the NAS be given a static IP address. However, the router will often assign a different IP address. This mismatch will results in the NAS being a no-show in Windows Explorer. I had a problem like this recently but it started with me creating a virtual machine in my NAS. I later deleted the VM but the virtual switch remained behind and that's where my problem was created. As soon as I deleted the virtual switch, I was able to reset my IP address to "Obtain from DHCP", my issues disappeared.

Finally! The damn Windows Features SMB is why I couldn't see the NAS. I have a really old Synology. I was ready to crush this PC. Thank you for returning sanity to me.

I had the opposite of this, I could see NAS in Synology Assistant, browser connect and file explorer - but could not connect or map drives with the devices name.
Checking all your settings it still would not connect or show.
Restarted routers and computer, tried everything.

The only resolution was to manually add the hostname of the IP in system32

My Diskstation doesn’t even show up under Network anymore in W10 or 11. I have to map drives using Synology Assistant, or use FTP software. I can still access the NAS through a browser.

I’ll try the apply workaround.

I've recently spent a bit on a Synology DS220j and I can't see it via explorer/network. I can connect via domain name, but just isn't discoverable. Been through all these settings and still nothing, load of rubbish since my 8 year old NAS appears just fine.

so iv followed this and your other videos. my NAS over ethernet only connects via file explorer if i turn off my windows wi-fi, with wi-fi on i get the 'can not find on network' error your other video covers. its driving me mad as i had always worked perfectly before. anyone with any ideas, id really appreachte it. thanks :)

oh also in my ethernet network setting theres no option to change network from public to private anymore. there used to be. its all being very strange.

my NAS vanished a few days ago, didn't check any of these setting but luckily shutting down the NAS and PC's and then rebooting everything sorted it. Is it recommended to reboot the NAS every so often? probably been a year since i had last switched it off.
