The peripheral nervous system (#PNS) is a network of 43 pairs of motor and sensory nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system) to the rest of the body.

These nerves are in charge of sensation, movement, and motor coordination. They are delicate and easily damaged. When one of these nerves is seriously injured or traumatized, surgical treatment may be required.
