Some things that I’ve found useful:

1. Watching TV muted, subtitles, and a metronome in the background, a bit weird but I find it quite relaxing;

2. Timeguru app, like a metronome but you can programme silence, or randomise it which means if your pocket isn’t that good it will show;

3. Amazing Slow Downer/Anytune, cycle your fave music in different speeds. Great when you’re in the office, car, or train to internalise a solo and understand the phrasing and groove.

Love this channel, new subscriber.

Great video! My favorite tip is the one about videoing yourself practicing, as that can really catapult you to different dimensions. Basically you become your own teacher. Listening to yourself "live" while you're playing is almost impossible. A great example for how we can use technology in an effective and satisfactory way!

When doing scales and such, set the metronome at the same speed as you tap your foot. It’s easier to lock with your natural rhythm.

Really good stuff. It took me years to get the idea that the tightest player is the one, that is still tight on a 20BPM metronome.

Gold, thanks again!
Regarding recording practice, I’ve seen many musicians on Instagram post clips of their practice sessions. This could be useful for anybody who’s looking for ways to both leverage that platform and come up with content ideas they can post consistently. For example, the hashtags “100daysofpractice” and “practicejournal” have about 200, 000 and 3, 000 posts respectively; those would probably be good ones to start depending on how big one’s account is.

iPhones have a nice little feature called "Do Not Disturb", which is really useful for not fucking up your concentration. I can only imagine Android having a similar feature, but I haven't used an Android for over two years now...

At least 8 of these points are taught in any good jazz school.

I'm a bit skeptical of the metronome thing but I'll give it a try.

Any tips on how to practice fast songs without getting pain in your fingers?

Another good thing is to create a playlist in Spotify or whatever service you use and build up a repertoire of material that you can actually play all the way through... Maybe Damian could create a function band top 40 playlist... Hope Jeff Berlin's not tuning in... He hates metronomes 🤓

Hey Damo

Got a crazy question for you

Would you consider a band that is starting from 0. Nothing. Just kicking off....

Would you consider skipping the Facebag in the initial online appearance, , and promoting on other smaller social media sites....sites like Minds, MeWe, Ello etc

The reason I ask, is the small fish in a big pond v big fish in a small pond idea.

While some of these sites only have a fraction of the 2+ billion accounts that The Facebag has, I suspect that the people on these networks have a little more vested interest in their success, moreover, the noise levels I expect would be lower, giving us hopefully more interactions

As we have no followers, no emails other than our existing friends, no one knows about us, developing a following that interacts with us, and hopefully each other, I’m hoping will be easier in these smaller social village style communities.

The reason why I ask this is, when setting the Facebag account up, registering a page and uploading logos and wallpaper, I was booted off for “suspicious activity” against the “community guidelines” and they asked me for a photo of some ID....I sent them a photo of my middle finger. Needless to say that account was terminated....

That said, we have presence and consistent ID on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and SoundCloud, as well as a .com domain name and a local trade mark application on the name.

Any comments on this strategy ?
