Update: If you play on 1.20 or above you need to aim the crosshair slightly above the chest before casting the rod.

For 1.20 and above: You can also use banner instead of sign at the front so that you can stand anywhere like before without having to worry about editing the sign.

PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE 1.21

To use this farm in 1.21, you have to crouch and look slightly above the back trapdoor. You cannot afk this farm on console. You can only afk if you are on pc with an auto clicker.

Works like a charm. If you're having difficulties casting the rod just place a block above the upper chest while holding shift. Now you can just right click the block above the chest and it will cast the rod successfully every time.

two notes that worked for me:

1. you must cast above the chest slightly and have the trap door on the end flat on the ground.

2. items were not going into chest for me. so i just put the chest directly under the hopper instead of beside and now works.

First fish farm I've ever made, and it works great! Thank you so much.
I did, however, have to make one simple change.
1.20 and editable signs seems to have broken this. Clicking on the sign opens the edit sign feature. Clicking higher opens the chest or, disastrously, opens the rear trap door, leaving your fish to flop around until it dies.
This can be solved by replacing the front sign on the chest with a banner. Don't ask me why a banner wouldn't burn up; but so would a sign, so fire logic doesn't apply in Minecraft. LOL

Put a solid block above the chest and use the rod on that block. It makes it easier and doesn't edit the signs or anything

To fix the problem with the signs, use wax on them to prevent them from being edited

This tutorial was great. I just had to do different things on mobile as far as building. I use a rail on block above and to the side and pushed the cart in on top of the hopper after placing the sign then rebuilt around it.

this thing worked beautifull❤ i used this farm for 20 minutes with luck of the sea 2 and lure 2 and i got a ton of enchanted bows and fishing rods, 84 cods, 43 salmons, some trash and around 10 XP levels.

you can lock the sign with honeycomb if you keep running into the issue of editing the signs in 1.20 btw

For safety measures you can use fench gate so you don't accidentally fell to the lava

I finally found a way to fix the problem of items not getting inside the chest. Just place the lava above the hopper, no need for the minecart and sign 😊

After 20 minutes of using it a creeper came a blew it up, and then a second creeper came to rub it in my face and then he blew the rest up. Im so pissed rn 😡


Edit: I rebuilt it and hopefully no creepers blow me up this time.

What I did was place block above the chest so that I was not accessing the chest aim your Rod at the block you placed above the chest and it works perfect no problem

Can confirm it still works in 1.20 - not sure what people are talking about with the size of the water, I'm getting loot with just the video water blocks.

Suggestion: place a slab over the chest as a spot to aim at, works perfectly.

Stand 4 blocks behind the sign in 1.20 for it to work without editing the sign

I have a problem, for some reason when I cast the fishing pole it just floats up to the top instead of staying on the bottom like in the video. Any solutions?
