Ancestry DNA + Traits: 50/50 Results & Demo 🧬

Hi! This video is a demo and review of Ancestry DNA + Traits. I have mentioned in previous videos, such as the Mixed Girl Tag, that both of my parents are mixed race Jamaicans. Just giving that background for anyone that is new to my channel. I was expecting some countries such as England, Ireland, and Scotland as results but wanted to get a better grasp on the African regions that my ancestors were from. I found Ancestry DNA to be pretty good at helping to narrow down these regions but they still were rather broad. I also show you my family tree in this video and how you can get hints on relatives that you add to it. Lastly, I show the different traits they test for. Let me know in the comments if this video was helpful for those of you seeking to get tested on Ancestry. Also let me know what videos you would like to see next in the comments below!

Thanks for sharing this video. I teach high school biology and we're currently talking about genetic traits. I am going to have my kids watch this video and then write a short summary of what you found out about your heredity. Awesome walk-through that you posted here.

That's because certain tribes are found in several countries and are nomadic for that reason it gives a broad region for ethnicity

When you're on the review page, and it says Potential Mother or Father on the right hand side, you can click on it and add the parents without a membership. :)

Damn your the first person I seen who was perfectly 50/50. Usually it never comes out that way.

West africans originated from the omo valley in ethiopia. The left ethiopia about 20, 000 years ago and permanently settled in West Africa. A group of them left West Africa about 10, 000 years ago in a historical episode known as the bantu expansion. The journey took them back to east africa, to central africa and south africa.

Brunette hair generally turns reddish when you try to dye it blonde unless you bleach it beforehand! My sister has blue/black hair normally, her hair turns an awful shade of orange because she tries to make it blonde!

Ancestry making these African regions rather big is an element of honesty. The truth is that the models these DNA companies use to estimate ethnic origin are totally unreliable. Not just for Africa, for Europe too. There is a recent youtube video where two identical twins did those tests with 5 such companies, and the results varied a lot, sometimes the twins result differed for the same company. One expert said in the video that beyond continental divides these results were totally unreliable. So, Berry is 50% African and 50% European, any split beyond that is wild guess work.

I think with more DNA samples from each African country, future results will be more accurate and specific.

HI. Fellow Jamaican here. Just advising that the farfetched genetic relationships that seem unbelievable are possible. Swedish genetic evidence, for instance, is very possible in Britain due to the many ways the Vikings affected the genetics of Europe generally and the British isles specifically. The African genetic broadness is probably due to the lack of a large enough genetic database for those areas and the historic migrations of early populations that cause some clouding in results. Those results will change the most with time.

DNA is so interesting . Our last name was Wray in UK and Virginia, but the W was dropped after they moved west . Looked like that was the same person and her name was spelled wrong, its common especially in the past .

Well, I got my results. I’m mostly African and good bit European...English, Scottish/Irish, French, Italian and Portuguese. Also Native American, that one was a surprise...so you were right. 🇯🇲🇯🇲

I don’t know much about dna. But from what I’ve learned and gathered companies need a lot of peoples dna to point them to specific regions. If not a lot of people that are in that region aren’t taking dna tests than it’s unfortunately gonna be largely marked instead of a more specific. If people were given ethnic dna tests are are willing to do it And get a decent amount of people in the database to compare dna with the results would be more on point. Sorry if you can’t make this out I was probably all over the place
