Iconic landmarks across the globe turned out the lights to mark Earth Hour on Saturday.

The Eiffel Tower and Spain’s Sagrada Familia were among the famous buildings to go dark for one hour, in order to raise awareness about the climate crisis and rapid biodiversity loss.

“I think it is very useful for people to become aware that we are spending a lot of energy, especially with an emblem like the Sagrada Familia,” said one Barcelona resident who came out to see the lights at the famous church go dark.

The Colosseum in Rome and Greece’s Acropolis were among the other landmarks to turn off their lights, along with the Sydney Opera House and the Tokyo Tower.

My guess is all of the people who are in favour of this, use gas guzzling conveyances in order to wittiness the lights to be turned out.

Turning off lights is not saving the planet, is this the effort they can think of..waste of time and dont impress me, ridiculous.

❤God said the climate will be fine.

Genesis 8:22 —
While the earth remains,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat, summer and winter,
day and night, shall not cease.”

Did house energy bill go down with what is saved?

It might not actually save any electricity. Every night there is this thing called "base power". You have a large Coal power plant that runs all night regardless if people use electricity or not. And it has to stay running. If something happens in the late hours like some earthquake or breaking news, suddenly people wake up and turn on their lights. So a large power plant always has to stay running. This earth hour thing is more symbolic than anything. It doesn't save any electricity. The fuel is still burnt up regardless

I don't get it. I'm turning on ALL the lights so I can SEE the Earth!
Isn't that what this is all about?

I disagree with the message. THERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF ENERGY AND WE SHOULD BE USING 10X AS MUCH FOR ALMOST FREE! WE ARE SURROUNDED BY ENERGY!

Can we make this a weekly thing? I actually quite like it. Especially Athens, that was quite dramatic.
