I also showed commitment to my beliefs during Earth Hour.
I switched on every light in the house, every appliance, and had the air-conditioner on full blast, all six house computers on and all 3 TV's and two stereos all on at once. Just for good measure I started the vacuum cleaner, the car and the lawn mower and revved them up to maximum speed.
Reckon I more than made up for the 10 or so bird-brained prats in my street who I saw switch off.

More of a symbolic gesture to show how important it is. Either to take the matter seriously, saving extensively or... play sarcasticaly.

Wow, I bet burning all those candles really helped to reduce humanity's "carbon footprint" dramatically. Next it'll be get rid of electricity altogether and back to coal fires and rush lights. That'll *really* do the trick. If they really want to do something useful why not ban all non-essential traffic from city centres for an hour?
